Here is the problem: taliban antimormon catholics love to bring up the abominable church when disparaging Mormons and their religion. But they seem to forget that the catholic cathedral is in the heart of salt lake city. How could brigham allow the devil's church so close to the temple?
He wouldn't. But it does prove he respected the catholics because he allowed them to build on that land.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith
I do like Why me's point that the Republican party is farting on the WASPs this year with a Mormon and a Catholic.
The catholics and the Mormons make natural allies. It is only on the catholic taliban board with its small group of LDS haters that there seems to be a problem. But these people are only catholic in name.

You got some factual errors going on there. (no surprise)
It is the Mormons who have called the Catholic church, and every other church for that matter, "abominable".
and
Brigham was dead 13 years before the Catholic Church even bought the property.

Catholic only in name?......LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! You're the one lying for the lord over there saying you were Catholic.
Anyone can be an ally of someone else on a sinking ship. That doesn't mean they agree theologically.
I'm still waiting for your proof that Mitt chose Ryan because he was Catholic.
And people talk about dead Chicagoans voting? How about posthumous real estate sales.
LOL
So it wasn't Brigham Young who "allowed" the Catholics to build a church. It was his ghost. It's an even bigger miracle than we thought.

What's next?
Posthumous home teaching? I had a senior companion once that made us do this. We turned up at the address of a less active to be told that he had died. When we got back in the car my companion said he felt moved to give him the lesson anyway, which he then proceeded to do.

But why is that? I think it is because it is portrayed to look that way. Look I have and IRA that primarily invests in stocks and mutual funds in Australia, China, Singapore, etc...
Jason, I just realized you were talking about "investing" overseas. Of course, a lot of us hold international mutual funds, emerging markets, that sort of thing. Surely no one looks askance at that.
I think the issue is with off-shore bank accounts, which most people associate with hiding assets.
