I suppose that might be seen as a subtle baby-step in the right direction.

I don't think I buy the official/unofficial dichotomy. I suppose this is what people mean when they talk about teachings being de-emphasized? They are still selling it, giving it implicit credibility.

The whole "official" thing is a total crock, and I've decided simply not to play along with it. The church is selling that book. Obviously they agree with what it says. Pronouncing it "official" or not is totally meaningless.

I agree. Official has always been a BS apologetic game.

It never was official, not being published by the Church. Merely being sold in an LDS store does not fit any definition of official doctrine.

Yet the copyright clearly still says Bookcraft. This is no different than the intro the BD establishing where it comes from (not the Church).

On the original header we could read the whole name of the church, AND the words "Online Store" juxtaposed.

Exactly what the oligarchs did in the FSU. They not only ended up with steel structures, they ended up with mines, oil wells, gas wells, mineral rights, even entire forests. This is what can happen when there are no effective checks and balances on leadership. Sort of like in the LDS Church.

As Dr. Scratch knows (I think), I served on the Board of Directors of a publicly traded US technology company in which major shareholders were the two Russian brothers who ended up with the lion's share of the timber rights to the forests in Siberia, as well as the associated pulp and paper export concession.

The US executives in the (technology) company had a (not so funny) little joke that went like this:

Q. What is the quickest way to build a nice $30 million dollar company in South Florida?

A. Invest more than $100 million and let the Russians run it.

+10000. The mere fact that the apologists have created official/unofficial doctrines simply shows that they are embarrassed by some LDS beliefs. I have more respect for the faithful TBM who is not afraid to stand up and defend everything the church teaches, even if I find things indefensible. Non-mormons may think they are crazy, but Mormons used to pride themselves on being peculiar people. I have more respect for someone with sincere beliefs, even if society thinks they are weird, than apologists who twist and misrepresent things to make themselves appear mainstream.
