Wow. I wasn't aware of that position. That is really disappointing and hypocritical.

by the way, here's a cite for that.

and to be fair Harry Reid took the same dishonorable stance. the most high profile Mormon office holder to support religious liberty in this instance was Orrin Hatch, who said "I'd be the first to stand up for their rights."

[quote="Sethbag"]I really dislike Romney because he appears to be willing to say whatever he has to say, to whomever he has to say it, to get elected. He also says just the most outrageous things about Obama in order to please the crowds of haters and crazies the Republicans seem to be able to attract at their rallies.

I'm betting that if Romney wins the presidency, he is going to hope that others respect him because of the office he holds. And to win that office, he is body-slamming the current President, saying all kinds of disgusting things. That's sickening.

Do you have some specific examples? Do they rise to the level of Harry Reid's accusation that essentially Romney is a tax dodger and the add that strongly implies that Romeny's actions at Bain caused a woman to die from cancer?

Oh yeah, of course you're right. Brain fart.

The Reid thing raises an eyebrow, certainly. Hopefully at some point we'll see the tax returns and know whether Reid was blowing smoke, or whether he was on to something after all. If he was blowing smoke then it was very irresponsible, even reprehensible, for him to say what he did.

As for specific examples, I'd have to go read or watch things I've read or watched before to find examples to cite for you, but I've specifically heard Romney say that Obama hates America, that Obama seeks only to divide America, that Obama's campaign is based on anger and hate, that Obama isn't a real American, etc.

The one about Obama's campaign being based on anger and hate is incredibly ironic, considering the contexts in which it has been said.

By the way, I went to a Bullseye pistol match this last week, and the guy running the range from time to time would rant against Obama over the loudspeaker, apparently assuming that anyone holding a gun in America would've course hate Obama. One of the things he said was that he'd received a chain email supposedly written by an author who helped fuel the birther controversy, where it was claimed that this author has now conclusively proven that Obama was married before his marriage to Michelle - to a man! Apparently some proportion of the Republican base in this country gets their political facts from the National Enquirer.

What unbelievable crap, yet this kind of intellectual sewage collects in many nooks and crannies of the far Right in this country, and Romney shows up at campaign stops and fans the flames.

At least McCain had the cojones that one time on a campaign stop to correct publicly that loony woman who yelled out that Obama is a muslim (though he did it inartfully).

i notice that neither of the alledged lies you cite came from Obama or the Obama campaign.

as for the many outright lies put out there directly by Romney, here's a partial list:
- claimed Obama is going around the world apologizing for America.
- claimed Obama is ending Medicare as we know it.
- claimed Obama is ending the work requirement for welfare.
- claimed Obama didn't mentioned the debt in 2012 SOTU.
- claimed Obama is trying to supress military voters in OH.
- claimed Obama has not signed any new trade deals.

Yeah, I noticed as well. Anyone claiming "Obama does it to" ought to quote Obama.

I think the claim that every campaign is equally dirty and dishonest is highly dubious. Romney's SuperPAC pals carpet-bombed the airwaves to destroy his Republican rivals. Both Huckabee and Gingrich have called Romney a liar as a point of factual observation. Seeing Gingrich say it on morning TV made me LOL. He's said it like he was referring to what he had eaten for breakfast while a flustered anchor lady stuttered in disbelief.

But the thing that really pissed me off is the temple in Boston was built across the street from a skyscraper brought down by Mormon pilots.

But when Morales asked why she changed her mind, Mrs. Romney said, "We have a reason why we're running and it's because I believe in my heart that Mitt is going to save America, that economically we are in such difficult times and that he is the person that’s going to pull us through this."

At best she sounded merely deluded, but in light of Mormonism it was downright creepy.

Her whining really got to me. It's not fair that she was criticized for being a stay at home mom. Not fair to be portrayed as a Stepford Wife. Not fair that she should have to hear her husband being criticized. Not fair that anyone wants to see their tax returns. What world is she living in? (Well, I guess I know the answer to that, the world of Mormon Royalty. No wonder she believes themselves to be above criticism).

You are probably right, Kish. When it comes to US politics I have become incredibly cynical.
