Zeezrom, are you and your wife still active LDS? (just curious, in light of your post).

Wife is. I made a commitment to her just last night that I will begin participating again with the children. It has been a couple of years since I was last active, serving as Executive Sec. in the bishopric.

Knowing that my wife was given the promise (temple endowment) of becoming a priestess, I figure we might as well pass whatever power I have to her asap.

This will be my wife, taking on the office of priestess Elder:

... letting women either conduct (or at least be present at) worthiness interviews for teen girls;

Some male leaders may balk at this, expecially missing or being under female scutiny when discussing the exact details of sexual matters.

Libs, you are certainly NOT crazy.

Thanks, CWald. I know. :) Sometimes good to do a reality check, though. ;-)

You are right that is seems sort of strange today, but after the church begins to accept the fact that women can have the priesthood, it will feel more comfortable.

The first time I mentioned it to her, I felt so crazy. I was thinking, "I can't believe I'm even saying this to her!"

After you think about it for a while, the crazy wears off and you eventually begin to see it as normal.

Luckily, the witch hunts are long behind us. A powerful woman, holding spiritual power and authority is no longer as threatening as it used to be.

It may still be very threatening to some men. Plus, I saw a lot of placid acceptance from women in the church (including myself). I think, telling ourselves (and the men confirming) that we are "really" equal, that we just have different roles and responsibilities...or even better, that women are naturally more spiritual, so we don't need to bear the priesthood, is a way to sooth ourselves into submission. I've heard women say, many times, that they were glad they didn't have the responsibility of the priesthood. On one level, I totally understand that, as women are kept very busy with callings, plus family and often jobs, on top of that. The load becomes very heavy, after a while, so I can see why the priesthood would seem, just another burden. But, when I finally, seriously, thought about it, women are putting their spiritual lives under the complete domination of men, from the top down, with very little, to no, say on much of anything of importance. They can't even hold meetings, without a priesthood holder on site. It may sound difficult to take on more responsibility, but I think many women don't realize what they give up, personally, when they have so little say about a church that means so much to them, and to which many give their all.

And, yes...if women are considered Priestesses in the Temple...why not outside of the Temple?

It is wrong to use the excuse that women don't want/need the priesthood because they are "too busy". The priesthood is about power. It is the power of God and his angels. This power can be used to help us, even if we are super busy taking care of kids or being a career mom.

The way priesthood power is passed on is by the laying on of hands in the name of Jesus. There is nothing stopping me from sharing this power with my wife. There is only our own feelings of inadequacy and shame that block us.
