Beer never really impressed me. If you are going to break the word of wisdom, I would rather break it with a glass of nice red wine. My brother's wedding served a lovely blackberry merlot at the rehearsal dinner.

I tried a dark beer on tap at a pizza place in college that wasn't horrible. I tried a sip of Coors out of a can that was disgusting.
It was very bitter.
I think everyone's taste buds are just different. And yes, you can develop tastes for different things.
