Homosexual Bayard Rustin, a communist, was one of MLK's main influences. He followed Stalin's "theory of nationalism" as per the Soviet Union's instructions to it's operatives but became disillusioned and joined himself to various Socialist movements. No change really.

My underlining.
Wow. So many buzzwords in such a small space. Still, how did you miss Nazism, democrats, and Pol Pot?

So, the only statement that is true is that MLK had Baynard Rustin as an adviser?
Baynard Rustin was a homosexual? Good thing Roy Cohn never found out! A man who worked with Gandhi in India must have obviously owed his first allegiance to Stalin, especially since he left the Communist Party in 1941, and met with Gandhi in 1948. I see a little more of Gandhi than Stalin in Martin Luther King's tactics.
I'm just trying to figure out how to get from here to ldsfaq's contention that Martin Luther King was a Conservative Republican...

The BIG fact you're missing is that while MLK WAS a Conservative Republican, he DID have several liberal leanings and tendencies.
In other words, he wasn't 100% Conservative/Republican, the same way a Gay Conservative/Republican isn't 100% Conservative/Republican in the "traditional" sense.
But, he most certainly was a conservative republican in the vast majority of his views and beliefs.
Further, with all due deference to President Benson (who I'm guessing wasn't prophet at the time of that statement?), he IS correct in what he said of MLK, but it would be more accurate in that he's incorrect in the overall "feel" and "generalization" he was getting at in the statement.
MLK also spoke at Conservative/Republican venues, also took money from such, was praised by such, had conservative republican's as his aides, etc. etc.
So, the actual truth is between the two statements. But, my statement was still the basic fact. My elaboration was simply ignored, but I repeat it again even more clear for those who missed it.

So Dr. King was a Conservative Republican, but sort of like a Log Cabin Republican? Yeah, they've certainly had a lot of influence in shaping the agenda of the Republican Party.
I'll make a list of what would be considered Dr. King's liberal positions. You can make a list of those positions that were Conservative Republican.
King wanted the Government to spend $30 billion (those are 1968 dollars) for antipoverty measures.
Full employment
Guaranteed annual income
Annual construction of 500,000 affordable residences.(Again, this is in 1968)
Accused Congress of "appropriating "military funds with alacrity and generosity," but providing "poverty funds with miserliness."
King questioned "our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America," and asked why the U.S. was suppressing revolutions "of the shirtless and barefoot people" in the Third World, instead of supporting them.
He called for "radical changes in the structure of our society" to redistribute wealth and power.
So now tell me about the "vast majority" of his conservative views.
