Just do as I did the last few times I went. Surf rfm and mormonthink......

It's true.

The only wifi access allowed is to the LDS.org system.
Password protected and monitored.

Get a wifi anywhere thing. I have a 4G one from Verizon called Mifi. It's like $50 a month for 5GB, so it's expensive, but it's awesome. I can literally take it anywhere and it works (well, it doesn't work below ground in a parking garage, and I am sure there are places out in the desert where meth dealers can rob trains of their methylamine without anyone knowing because there are no cell towers around, but I am sure your typical ward meetinghouse's wifi block would be no match for the Verizon Mifi.)

When I was attending, I passed the time in sacrament meeting by finding all of the doctrinal mistakes that speakers made, and then in Sunday School or Priesthood I would use those mistakes as answers to questions. When the teacher or some other class member would refute what I had said, I'd say, "Oh, but I thought we just heard that in sacrament this morning"

Lot's of fun ensues.

My stake president told everyone in stake conference not to use electronic devices in sacrament meeting. I was just about to surreptitiously read a pdf on my phone yesterday when we were reminded about it again over the pulpit (I had forgotten). Shoot.

Here are some survival tips:

Won't work as we notice such things. One of the TR questions is about attending one's meetings. We don't count that as attendance nor would we advance a young man in the priesthood who does that. No peace.

Despite my plug for the Mifi, I actually do think it is rude to be reading electronic devices in Sacrament meeting. I totally understand the desire to do so for one who is attending under some duress. But, really, the use of electronic entertainment devices in churches, schools, restaurants, etc. has gotten way out of hand. There is a time and place for everything. Church is not really the time to be surfing the net or playing Ticket to Ride or listening to music or podcasts, is it? I think if I had done that during the short time when I was doing the whole "attend to keep peace in the family" thing with my wife, she would have been as upset or more upset than if I had just stayed home. I kind of think that if you are going to make the commitment to go to church, well, maybe you ought to suck it up and actually go to church and not just transfer the living room to the chapel. But if you do decide to bring the Ipad or Itouch to church, I still heartily endorse the Mifi. Maybe just use it in the foyer, though.

You clearly haven't heard of seminary, where the only criteria to pass is 80% attendance. And attend does not mean 'pay attention'.

That was my experience. Didn't matter if it was a tablet or a coloring book, if I wasn't paying attention it didn't count.

Give me a damned break, BC!

You and I would not want to tangle if we were in the same stake.
