bcspace, you didn't answer the question.

BCSpace must go to some apostate church I've never heard of.

Most people are not so clueless as to not recognize if a person is striving or not. A bishop is going to ask in the interview why he doesn't see you at Church and he's not going to accept a BS excuse.

I hold a calling and am there every week. If you are referring to the skipping out on Sunday School for donuts, that is a very once in a while activity. Foiled again, my friend.

You clearly haven't heard of seminary, where the only criteria to pass is 80% attendance. And attend does not mean 'pay attention'.

May not work there either. Those who cut up in class are typically marked absent in my experience. Some of the teachers are also pretty good and you'll never know but what your child removes his earbuds and gets "indoctrinated".

It's not too difficult to identify a NOM family. We've got one right now whose son, to their obvious consternation, has been called on a mission and is going. They want to go through the temple with him, but it's not going to happen. Maybe when he gets back.....

And why will the NOM family not be able to attend the temple?

What does that mean, exactly?

I totally understand the desire to do so for one who is attending under some duress. But, really, the use of electronic entertainment devices in churches, schools, restaurants, etc. has gotten way out of hand. There is a time and place for everything. Church is not really the time to be surfing the net or playing Ticket to Ride or listening to music or podcasts, is it? I think if I had done that during the short time when I was doing the whole "attend to keep peace in the family" thing with my wife, she would have been as upset or more upset than if I had just stayed home. I kind of think that if you are going to make the commitment to go to church, well, maybe you ought to suck it up and actually go to church and not just transfer the living room to the chapel. But if you do decide to bring the Ipad or Itouch to church, I still heartily endorse the Mifi. Maybe just use it in the foyer, though.

Well, my son is autistic and also has ADHD. Anything to keep him quiet and still during Sacrament Meeting is something both hubby and I will promote.

Well, of course. I wasn't really talking about ADHD kids needing something to keep them busy, or toddlers needing some cheerios or whatnot. I was really talking about the adult who is going to church to please a spouse.

I have been away from the board for a year or so (and have returned under a new name). I see bcspace is still fulfilling his mission to be a constant reminder of why I and others don't even want to go back to the ward for a visit.

For undercover entertainment, I would get a phone with one small BT earpiece, and listen to some of the excellent exmo/postmo/Nom podcasts that are around. Keep the 'free' ear aimed at the podium.

That is also an excellent option.

Welcome to the board, or back to the board as the case may be. LOL

To whom?

At least with my spouse going and not paying attention was about the same as not going at all.
Hopefully Zeezrom and others will have more luck.
It's a shame really, Mormonism doesn't have to be a boring topic.

Would you please expand on this?

What is your definition of "hiding without consequence"?
