Read it again.

"I have observed a disturbing activity that takes place during Sacrament Meeting that doesn't seem to happen during any other public gathering of any other group."

Show me that democraticunderground, as far as church behavior goes, wasn't a Mormon church.

Are you kidding?

The discussion is about church. So what "group" attends shows and sporting events? My response was specifically limited to churches.

Are you stereotyping Mormons, or the democraticunderground?

Sorry, but the OP, to which I responded, deals with LDS and their 'phenomenon' of back rubbing...which the OP suggests only happens at LDS sacrament meetings (public wise, that is). I don't why you're changing it. Do you really think people rub backs in all public places, but only at church if it's LDS?

To answer your question, though, non-LDS attend shows and sporting events far more than LDS do (numer wise).

The OP seems to have been sterotyping LDS. I have done no such thing. As for DU, they speak for themselves, and the chances that Southsideirish is LDS is slim.

Is this really a hill to die on, for either side?

To the OP: apparently it isn't solely a Mormon phenomenon. It's OK. The church still isn't true.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Personally, I've only seen it at LDS churches as far as churches go. You have not given any evidence from any verifiable non-LDS church.

It does point up TBM hypersensitivity. TBMs feel prompted to chafe and 'disprove' the possible observation of something as innocuous as backrubbing (so damning of conduct!)? What are such TBMs afraid of? Mormons = disproportionate back rubbers. Is this going to be the topic of the FP/12's temple meeting tomorrow?

God forbid someone might mention that Mormons make up a significant portion of the population in Utah. Think of all the negative implications that such a comment might hold? It's just pregnant with negative connotation possibilities.

The OP is clearly stated and specific.
It also asks specific questions and allows for this phenomenon to exist in other groups, but I personally haven't seen it prevail outside of a Mormon Sacrament meeting.

They might if it seems to lead to little factories commencing unauthorised production runs...
I was subjected to this back rubbing phenomenon in my youth by a girlfriend sat next to me. At that age, with hormones doing what hormones do, my little factory showed signs of interest...

Oh, no. This is hardly a battle for me, though. While sock puppet lables me as hypersensitive on this issue, my reason for responding to this thread isn't remotely due to that. I've been on these boards for about a decade now, and I've seen detractors to the Restored Gospel use anything, and everything, to disparage the LDS Church and/or it's members...this happened to be a new one for me, and I thought it quite humerous.

There's no need to. Common sense dictates that if this occurs at LDS churches and at many other public events, it's going to occur in non-LDS churches as well. I've seen it. Your claim defies logic.

It is clear, and I have quoted it. Far be it for me to claim what you wished to imply, but your statements were in black and white:

"I have observed a disturbing activity that takes place during Sacrament Meeting that doesn't seem to happen during any other public gathering of any other group."

In your experience, you have not seen this 'phenomenon' occur anywhere else, and you did not allow for it to. Your original question even suggests that it doesn't.
