Scott Lloyd Strikes Again!

Post by _Doctor Scratch »

Is there something in the air these days out along the Wasatch Front? Maybe the summer heat is getting to ol' Scotty Dog? Who knows. Whatever it is, he's not holding back during this "Mormon Moment":

My colleague Michael De Groote, who occupies a cubicle across the aisle from mine, has suggested there be some system of color-coding those who post on this message board according to "hates the Church or not."

It was in jest, but I think the idea merits consideration.

Of course Scott would take this idea seriously, and offer it up to the board as being worthy of "consideration." Interestingly, BCSpace was the first to oppose this:

Scott Lloyd wrote:
bcspace wrote:Wouldn't that "color" our view and judgement before even reading what they have to say? Plus who decides who gets assigned what color? Wouldn't such a person also be "colored"? To properly interpret someone's view, wouldn't this require an index with the color of the color assignor on the y-axis and the color of the assignee on the x-axis?

It's simpler and more accurate for individuals to read or not read, judge or not judge, and for there to be fewer rules and less moderation (say, only for cuss words and x-rated topics). The truth will rise to the top quicker under such circumstances.

You guys need to lighten up.

Add on: Your last sentence (apparently added after I began my reply) is interesting. Might make a fascinating metric.

Yeah, c'mon, BCSpace--being branded an anti-Mormon bigot is pretty small potatoes. But some people did continue to question whether or not Scotty Dog's post was in jest. Luckily, he helped to clarify:

Could be an aggregate thing. Board participants who have attained a certain status (such as "Contributor") get to vote. The numbers are crunched and the colors assigned according to the resulting computation. And it could be a continuous thing, like awarding rep points. Might be fascinating to see how an individual's color changes over time along a given spectrum.

What, like, they'll become more white and delightsome? Regardless, I hope that Scott was able to supplement his joviality with some hate-flavored food from Chik-Fil-A.

If you think reputation and "like/dislike" systems on message boards and blog comments are stupid to begin with, vote this post up.

I give it four stars with irony.

What disturbed me the most when I read this thread is that folks nervously chuckle how its all on jest and fun, BUT it really isn't.

We all know there are many at MAD that would love this idea. And if they could get permission to do it in their wards, they would support it in a heart beat. No more wolves in sheep clothing.

And lest we forget, why me admitted right here on this board the reason they treated me like crap when I started at MAD was because i confused them and they didn't know what side I was on. I guess the color bands is not such a jest after all.

Oh, we aren't at all confused about what is going on here.

I feel some sympathy for those poor souls who are really taxed by the effort of pondering things and coming to their own conclusions with the guidance of the Spirit.

Color coding everyone would be so much easier.

But then, so too would assured salvation according to the plan of Lucifer.

If we're getting to assign colors I'd like Paul O to post in rainbow.

Maybe people should be allowed to choose their own color.
