I don't know what a facist is, but the assertion by Lively et al. is a lie designed to demonize gays. I know. It's hard to believe that right-wing gay haters who believe gays can be "cured" would engage in lies and misinformation.

This is all very sad. The book cited is by a couple of virulently anti-gay nutjobs. Not that it's needed but Reed College history professor Christine Mueller wrote a pretty solid refutation of the book and its silly assertion that homosexuality is at the root of Nazism. As she correctly points out, homosexuals were involved in all walks of life, in all political parties and religions, in 1920s Germany. The common factor of proto-fascist groups was violence, nationalism, and anti-Semitism, not homosexuality, which was about as important as, say, vegetarianism.

The Hari (he the infamous plagiarizer) article is notable because it doesn't say homosexuality is the source of fascism but that gays must recognize that they are not immune from fascist impulses. Also, he explicitly calls out the authors of "The Pink Swastika," whom he describes as "mad men":
