Post by _Joe Geisner »

As many of you know, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich spoke last night at the Women and the LDS Church conference

You can listen or download the address at this website. You can also download Joanna Brooks talk on her book. It is wonderful these addresses are available.

Laurel gives an address for the ages. She is a remarkable historian. I am very excited to see her book coming from Knopf, A House Full of Females. She talks a bit about this forthcoming volume.

Laurel's address is essential listening. I love how she makes history come a live. She reminds me of Will Bagley and his ability to make the pioneers real people. This is a quality I respect in great historians.

I have not listened to Joanna Brooks talk, but I am sure it will be a treat.

A friend pointed out to me that I provided the wrong link. I am sorry for the mistake on my part. I hope people will take the time to listen to Laurel's interview. Well worth the time.

Moksha,

I am really glad you enjoyed the lecture. Laurel is unique. She is respected by everyone I know for her scholarship. On a national level she is one of the most respected historians. I am very excited about he forthcoming book on polygamy. If you get a chance to pick up Laurel's "Rachel's Death: How Memory Challenges History," it will be well worth your effort.
