In what category would you classify "The Wizard of Oz?"

The Wizard of Oz is obviously fantasy on its face, and therefore, fiction on a superficial level. But I'm sure everyone recognizes the allegorical levels, as well, which have merit and meaning that can be taken as truth or not, depending on the reader's belief system.

What is the criteria for the challenge? I can provide verse by verse interpretation of the chapter in question that is pure rubbish, but which is every bit as valid as anyone else's interpretation. Would that qualify as a winning entry?
