The state is all and all is the state. The Democrats have now played their hand and exposed, wittingly or not, the central core of their worldview and perception of the scope, nature, and purpose of government.

Romney, with an actually still hinged understanding of the Constitution, Declaration, and nature of the state within the American political tradition and its classical liberal philosophical patrimony, responded on Twitter:
"We don't belong to government, the government belongs to us"
the implications of the statement in this video, that all of us "belong" to the state; all of us are elements or aspects of an organic whole represented and mediated by the state, or which is the state, should chill any intellectually and morally normal human being to the very bones.
This statement provides a window into the soul of the modern Democratic party and its essentially Franco-Germanic philosophical patrimony and rejection of the English speaking world's classical liberal tradition upon which the founding principles and documents of the nation were grounded as well as anything possibly could.
I see that, as a matter of public consumption and PR spin, the Obama campaign is now running away from this statement in an attempt not to appear as post-American and isolated from America and its founding principles as it and the party it represents actually is.
It won't work. Obama's new, updated version of the old progressive Liberal Fascism of another era has already been exposed for what it is in too many ways over too long a period of time, and this statement, which will now haunt the party and the campaign until November, exposes the beating heart of the ideology and mentality underlying so much of what The Democratic party supports in the area of actual policy prescription.

“The video in question was produced and paid for by the host committee of the city of Charlotte. It’s neither an OFA nor a DNC video, despite what the Romney campaign is claiming. The executive director of the host committee also said that the video was unaffiliated with both the campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

1. And Where, Bret, was this video presented, for what audience, and broadcast to millions of people in what nation, on September 4th?
Do you want me to believe that this video was not thoroughly vetted and approved before being presented at the 2012 Democratic National Convention? Or, like Obamacare not being read before being voted on, are convention videos not watched before they're shown?

Yes, and one of the last actual Cold Warriors and anti-communists among them. I can only surmise how JFK would have reacted to 9/11, as over against Kerry, Dean, Obama, and Harry "this war is lost Reid (not to mention most of the rest of the party once Bush had actually initiated a military response).

And Where, Droopy, is the item "2" that would normally follow item "1" in the natural course of things? I feel cheated.Droopy wrote:“The video in question was produced and paid for by the host committee of the city of Charlotte. Dunno. Do you s'pose Eastwood was vetted?Do you want me to believe that this video was not thoroughly vetted and approved before being presented at the 2012 Democratic National Convention?
The video uses the phrase "belong to government" in the same way that folks "belong to a church or a club" -- it is a participatory arrangement rather than a matter of ownership. The fact that some are trying to make hay out of this should be depressing.
All alone, or in twos,Or, like Obamacare not being read before being voted on, are convention videos not watched before they're shown?
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.
And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall.

Re: The Democrats Big Freudian Slip...
Ah, I think I see the problem here. Perhaps I can be of some assistance.
You see, there is this fairly well-known concept in language where one word will often have different meanings, depending on context. I realize it may seem complicated, but here is how it works:
A person will sometimes make a statement such as, "I belong to the Catholic Church," or "My dad belongs to the Rotary Club." You may be surprised to discover that this does not mean that they are the property of the church or club. What they are actually saying is that they are part of that organization.
Similarly, I might blurt out something such as, "I have seven brothers" (because I do). But I don't mean I own these fine fellows, in the same way that I would say I have three cars. It just means they are all brothers to me.
So you see, when someone says we all belong to the government, they are merely saying we are all "part of" the government. That's because in a democratic society, the government is by, of, and for the people. We all take part in it, by voting and in several other ways. Therefore, all citizens are part of their government. Or in other words, they belong to it. You are in very little danger of being sold into prostitution to help pay off the national debt, so try to remain calm -- there is really no need to panic.
It may be confusing, but please try to remember these concepts. Trust me; this knowledge could help you avoid further embarrassments of this type, where you repeat idiotic claims.
You're welcome. Happy to be of service.

Look, krose, this won't be much fun if you are going to insist on being sensible. Besides, many a patriot's blood has been spilled in defense of the god-given right ("right", did I say? Nay: responsibility!) to repeat idiotic claims.krose wrote:It may be confusing, but please try to remember these concepts.
