I disagree. Have you ever killed someone? If so, did you do it with a feeling of love in your heart or did you have to make that person "other" and "enemy" in order to accomplish it?

I think of the "forest through the trees" analogy.
We as humans can not fathom "eternity". We can not see the "forest through the trees".
Could God's destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah be a sign of his "love". I think so.
I think a better analogy is the wife who stays with the abusive husband because somehow through all of it "he really loves her".
Maybe the truth is that God, if he even exists, doesn't really care about us, and like the abusive wife we keep looking for any explanation or excuse to stick with him.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

So...an unhappy parent who kills his rebellious offspring can be considered to have shown them love...What?

It could also be an example of his schizophrenia. How were there no innocent hence righteous children in Sodom and Gommorah? Did the angels not count children in their scryings?

It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.

Well, it is obvious that "Heavenly Father" is an abusive asshole.

Maybe we could also ask: Have you ever killed all 5 children of two young parents? Or have you ever killed the children of 100s of parents? That is what must have happened in Sodom and Gamorrah. Maybe there existed some John Lennon to sing a tribute to their killing fields as well.

I don't know.
But just for a minute lets consider that you as "allknowing" knew there were no innocent people in Sodom and that none would turn from their wickedness and all would be eternally separated from God (hell).
If the destruction of that group of humans could be an example that turns billions of other back to God and Heaven could that not be seen as love?
I just think its dangerous to presume we know all of God's motives and understand his methods.
It could also be shown to be the same kind of child sacrafice required by Molech/Baal. God is bloodthirsty and can only be appeased by the blood of innocents.
