Brian Hale's FAIR Presentation on Sexual Polyandry

I don't care if this offends anyone. I'm just going to say it.

For a long time the mopologists have told us that there was no evidence that Joseph Smith was a "horndog" or that sex was a motivation at all for him in marrying multiple women. Quinn's research suggests that Joseph was having sex almost every day. A 37 year old man who has sex with a 16 year old girl (who is not his wife) on two consecutive days is probably a horndog.

The more I learn about Joseph Smith the less respect I have for him. I once thought he was this amazing Christlike prophet. It's still disillusioning to find out he was kind of a scumbag.

I had a similar reaction. And yet, here is how Quinn chooses to close his paper:

No matter what term(s) Larry Foster, or Brian Hales, or I use for describing Joseph Smith's relationships with women besides his legal wife Emma, God's words in 1843 said that none of those acts were sinful. The Lord warned everyone (including Emma) not to condemn Joseph. And I do not. God is not hostage to the ethics of any human being, and His prophets have sometimes manifested "theocratic ethics" that were in opposition to conventional ethics. Many people might dislike those manifestations of antinomianism, but that's the way things were.

That is, of course, classic Quinn for those familiar with his writings and testimony. He is a very interesting guy to say the least.

I was amused when reading his comments about sperm count etc. When my wife and I were trying to have a child, we checked witha Dr who checked my sperm count and suggested I hold off sex for a build up Some time later my wife was pregnant with our first of four daughters. So I suppose if Smith was dipping his stick in so many women over a short period they would not fall pregnant. Was there any method of contraception then? eg pig bladder?

But at the same time, I think Brian's video is right on target in this discussion. by the way, for those who do not know, Brian is a former Mormon.
