Romney vibrating on Health Care Reform
On Sunday, Romney tells Meet the Press that one of the things he going to 'put in place' is that 'all those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage.'
It's weird, because the raison d'etre of the individual mandate is people won't wait until they're sick to get health insurance. Romney was clearly aware of this when he passed the law in Massachusetts. Requiring coverage of pre-existing conditions without requiring an individual mandate doesn't seem logical.
A few hours later, just to clarify things, an aide then tells The National Review Romney does NOT support a requirement that all those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage:
"[I]n a competitive environment, the marketplace will make available plans that include coverage for what there is demand for," the aide said. "He was not proposing a federal mandate to require insurance plans to offer those particular features."
Whoops! If the first porridge was too hot, this porridge is too cold! Time for a clarification of a clarification. Another aide tells Buzzfeed:
"Gov. Romney will ensure that discrimination against individuals with pre-existing conditions who maintain continuous coverage is prohibited,"
So much for the idea that 'the marketplace will make available plans that include coverage for what there is demand for',
In this situation 'wavering' is typically the verb of choice, but I think the 'vibrating' is more appropriate. His position oscillates so rapidly that it is difficult to know its exact location at any one place in time.

Was the aide only speaking as a man?

"In a competitive environment, the marketplace will make available plans that include coverage for what there is demand for"
Is there any statement more idiotic than this one in regards to health insurance?
There is no competition to win the business of people who are already sick. Nobody wants those customers. What kind of business would want customers who will certainly cost more than they can pay?
The classic supply/demand model just does not work for insurance.

It is a declaration of faith-based belief in the marketplace. It's like saying 'God will provide'. It is a statement based up a belief in an ideology rather than reality.
It reminds of when people say "let the Market decide", as if the Market were possessed of some inhuman intelligence to which we should all genuflect.

Vibrating. Love it!
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

it should be noted that this is no more than a description of existing federal law dating from the Clinton era (not a component of the ACA).

no, no. the market can still provide for that.
just like an 80 year old can buy $1M worth of life insurance coverage for an annual premium of $999,999 : )

Re: Romney vibrating on Health Care Reform
Romney plans on increasing the net interest payout on savings and bonds, while increasing the rate for borrowing money.
I heard he is sick and tired of the CEO's on wallstreet lobbying to screw the American people out of their jobs quarterly.
The little guy will pull his money from the stock market, put it in the bank, and with his net-increase start a business giving people jobs.
While the CEO's on wallsrteet jump out thier windows to the actual street.
Super Pac that Batman!!!

Or will the CEO's on Wall Street just do what Romney does and move funds out of America?
