People who have been active for years or grew up in the church are not going to leave because of the apologists, but those who may be new, or are non-members are not going to be impressed.

why me wrote:Here is the point. David has doubts. He has had doubts for years most likely. He attends church. He has a site called mormonthink which has an agenda. He expresses his doubts at church. A member wants to help him. He sends the member something that he knows that member might not know. Thus, the whammy. And the woman...the same process...thus the second whammy. I smell a set up.

Oh, no! He sent the truth in response to a request from a member! That bastard!

LOL No kidding. I think we all know whyme will not address what is incorrect on Mormonthink.

I don't think they leave because of the apologists. They leave because no one can resolve the real issues with Mormonism. When the mopologists attack, it's just another sign that there are no good answers.

It is a discussion board, nothing more. It is not an apologetic discussion board. It just members both in and out of the church talking, discussing issues about the LDS church. Nothing more.

Your description of MDD as not being an apologetic board is ludicrous. That or your definition of apologetic comes from the same school of thought that brought us spiritual wivery, by his own hand means written by someone else, translation means revelation, eternal means a 1000 years and who can forget that fullness means that there were still two other books of scripture to come.

A friend was telling me that he got involved in a Mormon Facebook group, and when he expressed his opinions, he was asked, "Why are you trying to make me unhappy?"

How does expressing an opinion make someone unhappy? And how does sharing truth constitute an attack on someone's faith?

So, I go to Mass, meet fellow catholics, and tell them that I doubt the catholic faith, they want to help and then I give them some nice tidbits about a couple of popes or what the friars did to saint john of the cross and I pose doubting questions to help them so they can see the truth about catholic history because they should not be ignorant of their catholic history.

Except that's not what happened, and you know it. Does anyone else find it ironic that why me is resorting to a lie to condemn someone whose crime was to share truth?

Your twin is posting there with the same name and same story as you. Check it out.

Here's how why me would have handled it had he been the doubter.

Pat: Hey, why me, I hear you have some doubts about the Book of Abraham.
why me: Yes, that's true.
Pat: Can you share with me what is troubling you?
why me: I would but that would be wrong because it would be intentionally destroying your faith.

Yes, his argument is that stupid.
