Romney is just appealing to the insanity wing of the Republican party right now. His record shows him to be a moderate. I don't believe for a second that he will actually repeal the Affordable Care Act. He may make some modifications to appease some people, but he won't be repealing anything. I doubt he'll have the votes to do so anyway.

I have recently come to the conclusion that much of what I thought was the truth for most of my life is actually a load of garbage. Like I told Analytics, my questions are more sincere then you may think. Honestly, I don't know. I'm not sure what I know anymore. :(

I'm trying to be open-minded and learn. If I come across as a little defensive in my questioning, I only ask that you please be patient. It's difficult for me to admit that I am wrong so often in such a short period of time.

thanks,
Matt

For those tempted to wonder if Matt is a troll, I can attest that this isn't the case. Matt and I were once roommates back in 1997, and we got back in touch in 2008 when he treated me to the first NFL football game I've ever attended.

His concerns are genuine and his beliefs sincere. Like most people I knew way back then, Matt is also having serious issues with the LDS Church's truth claims. He's also one of the most reasonable people I know in real life, so do me a favor and try to be welcoming.

Kevin, I hope you don't think we have been impolite, but it's nice to know that we don't have another Droopy or faqs. (That has been fairly obvious, actually.)

No, no. I wasn't suggesting that. But I know how these discussions can become heated at some point, and I just wanted to nip that theory in the butt since it had already been presented to me elsewhere. Matt certainly isn't another Droopy in the sense of arrogance and attitude, though he probably has more in common with Droopy, politically speaking.

And I'm convinced LDSfaqs is just a Progressive posing as a Republican, just to make Republicans look bad.

Thanks Kevin. Despite what people on the other board have to say about you, I know you personally and know that you are a true gentleman. I appreciate your kind words.

i don't know if you've noticed this, but doctors have been whining about medicare reimbursement rates and threatening to bail on the program for decades. we get this same bluff every time another medicare "doc fix" bill comes up in congress, and yet somehow through the magic of the markets we never run out of doctors willing to take money from these tens of millions of ready customers.

And he repeats the tired lie about how Obama has funneled $700 billion from Medicare.

Its no "lie," but a documented empirical fact. If someone cannot tell the difference, or refuses to educate themselves sufficiently as to be able to speak intelligently about a subject, then one might suspect such a person has a serious credibility problem.

Oh, and the actual figure is 716 billion, not 700 billion. According to the CBO, these cuts cover:

A $260 billion payment cut for hospital services.

A $39 billion payment cut for skilled nursing services.

A $17 billion payment cut for hospice services.

A $66 billion payment cut for home health services.

A $33 billion payment cut for all other services.

A $156 billion cut in payment rates in Medicare Advantage (MA); $156 billion is before considering interactions with other provisions. The House Ways and Means Committee was able to include interactions with other provisions, estimating the cuts to MA to be even higher, coming in at $308 billion.

$56 billion in cuts for disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments.* DSH payments go to hospitals that serve a large number of low-income patients.

$114 billion in other provisions pertaining to Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP* (does not include coverage-related provisions).
