This was the smart move at this point from a public relations point of view. I'd be interested to see how mormonthink's traffic was affected by all this.

by the way, I realize I'm a hypocrite in what I posted above, since while I was still attending I was all about wearing non-white shirts. I guess I didn't think I was actually doing anything by it though, other than confirming my wickedness to all those TBMs I interacted with.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

I'm honestly a little surprised. If it wasn't to avoid bad PR than what was it?
Although if I were an average member, I might be upset about it. I mean the church seemingly gave in to peer pressure. Doesn't the church preach to its teens about doing the 'right thing' even when it's not popular? They seem like hypocrites to me. There is little doubt in my mind that if Twede had gone quietly they would have exed him.

What's interesting to me is how abjectly the church is reacting to media scrutiny and not even following their own precedents and principles. By any objective standard within the church, he should be excommunicated. He's not just a wolf in sheep's clothing - he's just a wolf, period.
Now, I agree with him, and the stuff on the MT site is true and all that, but that doesn't mean he isn't an apostate. He most certainly is, and President Alan Pratt should clear the obscene pop-ups from his screen and issue another warrant for Twede's Council of Love just as soon as this election is over. After all, he's got a flock whose minds he must protect from the dangers of information that Twede so insidiously represents.

He is the kind of member that the apostle Paul has warned the ancient church. He sounds foolish with the paisley stuff. Also, billions have gone to africa already and the continent is as poor as ever. All the money has been squandered, stolen and stashed away in swiss bank accounts. Giving money to africa has not solved the problem. However, the mall has provided needed jobs for the community.
This guy thinks that he is important and the people will listen to him. He is mistaken.

Which leaves one wondering why the court was scheduled in the first place.
I don't know the details but if Gordon contacted Pratt directly, and Pratt reacted with out consulting any one from Salt Lake, that would explain why. Or Salt Lake could have given instructions to proceed, saw the public reaction to it, and decided now was not a good time to draw attention of this sort.

He is a wolf. And I do believe that he wants to be excommunicated so he can be famous of 5 minutes on the antimormon boards. His recent blog is a case in point. He is grand standing for attention and for a bishop's court. And it will happen. His blog was off the mark since poverty is created by a corrupt system of corruption and profit. A billion dollars for the poor will not even solve the problem for a week.

What public reaction? I saw no public reaction at all. A newspaper article that was quickly forgotten? Hardly a reaction. And what attention would it get? One member excommunicated for apostacy is hardly a front page story.

Re: MT Twede's court cancelled
I wonder if the mormonnewsroom will now publish a retraction for calling Brother Twede an apostate. Should the official news organ for the church call individual members of the church "apostates"? When no disciplinary action has been taken by local ecclesiastical leaders? I wonder if President Newsroom will apologize to Brother Twede. I am not holding my breath.
