2012--The Year DCP Wished Wasn't

Post by _sock puppet »

Ah, the new year started out with such optimism, hope--dare I say, even faith, for DCP, Hambone and Midgely.

Young Greg Smith was putting the final touches on his magnum opus of ad hom against John Dehlin. Mitt Romney had deflected off a series of other Republican candidates. Just a couple more to go and it would be clear sailing.

The Time magazine photo essay comments section gave them the opportunity to show the Gentile world that Utah "Happy" Valley was in fact grand, god's green acre.

But then, what the hell happened?

The comment section turned into a fiasco for Mormon apologists.

Smith's piece was nixed at the Mormon Studies Review (bastardized rename of FARMS periodical screed).

DCP dethroned as the editor, even de-officed at NAMIRS. Holding up now in the hinterlands of the 'net as the Interpreters.

President Press Room issues a wordy doctrine clarification that basically boils down to 'Pepsi is okay, the prophet drinks it. 'Nuf said.'

Mitt is fading fast. A whiter shade of pale, indeed.

And if that weren't enough, the prospects of LDS Church disciplining Twede of MormonThink have faded too.

I suppose DCP might now be depressed enough with 2012 he thinks the Mayan calendar coming to an end might mean something.

You're right, Sock. The Mopologists have basically been reduced to being little more than Internet cranks. You know how they were fond of saying things like "Dr." Walter Martin, etc.? Now something similar applies to them--e.g., The Interpreter "Foundation." It's nothing of the sort--it's a bunch of vindictive cranks messing around on a Web site.

I'm glad BYU has taken the veneer of respectability away from these guys who are, as you correctly note, a bunch of vindictive cranks.

Sock,

You have accurately described the Zeitgeist of Mormon apologetics in 2012, and to a large extent, of Mormonism itself.

And if Mitt Romney, as the de facto face of Mormonism, doesn't get his anterior and posterior wired together very soon, I fear that there is worse to come in 2012 for both him and the LDS Church.

Yes, it is truly a bad year for DCP...

The good news is that Krispy Kreme has finally cut trans fat from its donuts. The bad news is a single donut can still carry more than half-a-day's saturated fat and more sugar than a Snickers bar.

Says the most vindictive and obsessive crank on the entire internet.

Hey Scratchy: how come you've given up posting sarcastic comments about Dan's blog? Have you run out of "inside" information since he unfriended your in real life identity on Facebook?

Did Midgley retire? When did this happen?
