Re: MT Twede's court cancelled
Any word yet on who the two "Church executives" that were with Twede's bishop and SP were?
Now that the Court of Love has been canceled (and now they're just secretly hating on Brother Twede), it seems more relevant to what might be going on behind the scenes depending on who the two "Church executives" were, what titles they actually hold?

At least Mike Quinn who knows more than any of us probably, says it for what it is and yet still believes in the prophethood of Joseph Smith. It happened. People should know it happened and then deal with it in terms of their own conscience.
My dear Mary, I understand that you think M. Quinn is a god and that his interpretation is the correct one. But believe it or not, his book is just that a book with a view point. Now if you agree with him...fine. If you agree with his interpretation because it fits your own belief system....fine. But there are other interpretations to read. If members bought Bushman's book from the church bookstore, they would know about it. Likewise, if people would buy the new BY biography from the church bookshop, they would know more about BY.
Can you please show me the definitive church of england history book published by the church of england? Can you please show me the definitive catholic history published by the vatican? Are they hiding their history? Or what about the definitive history of the lutheran church published by the lutheran church?
All complete with every skeleton of their history with an interpretation that would cast doubt?

The point is you were clearly wrong when you implied there was no public reaction at all, regardless of how long it lasted/will last. Yet, instead of admitting you were wrong, you attempted to excuse your mistake. Do you really not see how small it is to do that?why me wrote:Great. But here is a fact. I know I used to regard excommunication as this huge, portentous threat all jam-packed with significance.
I would now regard getting excommunicated from the LDS Church as being about as important to my life as being ejected from the Mickey Mouse Club. Or having a corner clipped off of my Totin' Chip Card.
I do acknowledge that Brother Twede may not see it that way. If so, then he'll have to make his decisions accordingly.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

If the true history does no damage, why hide it? Why have the brethren said that it is not useful?
Where is it hidden? We now have the JSP being published. We also have Richard Bushman and his book which was sold at church bookstores, we have the new BY biography being sold in church bookstores. What would you like the church to do? Publish a thousand page book with the correct MormonThink interpretation? Would that satisfy you? Has the catholic church hid its history? I don't see the vatican coming out with a thousand page book with the correct anticatholic interpretation of catholic history.
The whole argument is foolish. By the way, the institute manual teaches the polygamy of Joseph Smith complete with the name of his first Nauvoo wife. It also leaves open for the teacher to explain it further.
Right.... Go read the recent teachings of the prophets manuals for Relief Society and ph classes, the Joseph Smith and BY ones. How many mentions of polygamy do you find?
How was the Book of Mormon translated again?
FamilySearch an LDS church owned website lists Fanny Alger as a plural wife to Joseph Smith. How was polygamy practiced before the restoration of the sealing power?
When were you taught that polygamy in IL was illegal, and despite the articles of faith saying otherwise, polygamy occured?
I can go on and on with topics the church does not teach.

You twist the words, like all apologists do. I did NOT say "trying to do damage", nor did I 'admit that is the goal of MT', so don't put words in my mouth that I didn't write. Can you spin this? Seth would probably also like an interpretation:
The fact that the church has come after the last 2 editors of MormonThink speaks volumes about the damage the true facts on MormonThink are doing to the church, and GAs are trying to do damage control. t won't work in this information age. The more they come after the people on MT, the worse the church will look.

It's funny that they think that threatening to ex us will frighten us into toeing the line. If they exed me, I'd buy everyone here a round of beers.

Using this logic then Richard Bushman, Armand Mauss, John Dehlin, Joanna Brooks, Daniel Peterson, Ben Park, Jared Anderson and many, many more should all be 'had up' for apostasy since they have all discussed online and in print, controversial issues.
Heck, even the 'dodo' guy (can't think of his name), should be cautioned because he referred to the Catalyst theory of the Book of Abraham and the link between the temple ceremony and masonry.
Where's the line Sethbag? That's the issue surely, and I'm not sure the leadership genuinely can agree on where the line is, thus Twede's meeting has been cancelled.
That said, it seems that you acknowledge that the true facts on MormonThink are doing damage to LDS testimonies. If the act of presenting those facts to Mormons is not therefor an act of apostasy, I don't know what is.

Actually, the situation before Nauvoo is covered in the Institute manual. Now it mentions the date that the principle was conceived and perhaps a marriage but leaves it undocumented. Now the teacher can certainly tell the class that it was fanny alger. Fanny is mentioned on LDS.org if I am not mistaken.

How is polygamy practiced without the sealing power?
