Scott Gordon and LDS Church's Blaring Hypocrisy

Post by _Racer »

Here is a quote from Scott Gordon concerning Mormon Think's David Twede from today's Huffpo article here (I bolded for emphasis):
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/27/david-twede-mormon-blogger-excommuncation_n_1920614.html

Scott Gordon wrote:Scott Gordon, president of the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research, a Mormon apologist and media monitoring organization, has said in interviews that he believed Twede was attempting to draw Mormons away from the faith. Gordon had forwarded his concerns about Twede to church leaders in Salt Lake City. In a New York Times article, Twede acknowledged that he tried to shake the beliefs of at least one Mormon couple he had befriended.

So Gordon tattled on Twede and has attempted to turn his life upside down because Twede "was attempting to draw Mormons away from the faith."

A lot of gall from a church who disperses 50,000 missionaries into the world for the sole purpose of drawing other people away from whatever faith they cling to.

I am sure Gordon served a mission. I bet he didn't have any problem drawing investigators away from their current faiths. He may have even pointed out facts to his investigators about their religion in order to shake their faiths and win them to his side.

Its okay for LDS inc to mobilize and organize a huge and costly global missionary effort to draw others away from their faiths, but by damn no one better do it to them.

So this Twede individual is, in essence, yet another John Dehlin. A cursory inspection of the Huffpo piece says it all. He has publicly criticized Church teachings, made the utterly bizarre (and buffoonish, to any knowledgeable LDS) that the Church is threatening him with excommunication for criticizing Mitt Romney, and brought the entire thing out into the public (Church disciplinary councils are entirely personal and private affairs between he individual and his ecclesiastical leaders) sphere.

This is classic apostate behavior, and we've seen it time and time again. All in a day's work for this particular type of personality.

A lot of gall from a church who disperses 50,000 missionaries into the world for the sole purpose of drawing other people away from whatever faith they cling to.

Twede is an apostate boring from within the Church seeking to drive wedges between faithful members and their own church, not a missionary trying to convert people of different faiths through open and free discussion. Other people have the right to decline the missionary's teachings, and the Church - a private organization supported by the contributions of its supportive members - reserves the right to separate wolves from among the flock. That's indeed a part of the responsibilities of the priesthood as to the integrity and governance of the Church and

I don't think you quite "get it," here.

Oh well.
Nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our Father [in Heaven] and how familiar his face is to us

lol @ scott gordon. For a church to have spent much of its youthful history preaching for religious freedom it is quite ironic to watch the church attempt to shutdown thoughts and words.

Scott Gordon has embarrassed himself and he will have this little footnote for years to come.

Hey Droopy,

Twede didn't bring Romney into it. The Daily Beast inserted that bit of yellow journalism.
