It's not possible to test anyone for a chemical imbalance!!! The closest thing that might help in detecting mental illness is a cat scan which will show signs of brain corrosion due to substance abuse.

This is how psychotropic medications work. The doctors prescribe them as a way to avoid being sued after a person commits a crime or hurts themselves.

I spoke with a Branch President in downtown Portland last night and asked him to call/email me if he heard anything. I also gave him a little background. I'm calling DI in Portland today. I also have a cousin in Oregon who is going to make do some digging.

Did you know the cost of NAMI's reading materials is paid for by LILLY Corp & Pfizer so they can ruin a person's life when they aren't sick. Just read one of their manuals, they put a little pharma logo in the corner of every page.

The doctors never inform their patients about the effects of withdrawal, which mimic psychosis(derrr). But it's really just withdrawal which is a scare tactic put upon people so they'll stay hooked.

Who the hell pissed in your corn flakes?

Look, all I am trying to do is help. And I'm not really sure what you are implying here. Are you saying that there is no such thing as mental illness, or that people shouldn't be medicated for certain types of clinical depression, Bi-Polar, etc.? If that is your position, then you are sorely uneducated in this area.

A mental illness is just like any other illness of the body. You wouldn't tell someone who has a broken arm, "Hey, don't wear that cast. You're not injured!"

I agree that sometimes wrong diagnoses and wrong medications are prescribed at times. However, all I was trying to do was find a resource that might help someone who has already been diagnosed with Bi Polar disease some help.

I would like to see the link of where you read this organization was a scam. Everything I have found on google regarding NAMI has been very favorable.

Two members of my family have bipolar. One refused medication, and the other embraced medication.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess that the medicated patient has done MUCH better. In fact, one would not know he has bipolar at all.

The unmedicated patient, on the other hand, continues to destroy relationships and lives.

Some of the most successful medical treatments for bipolar involve anti-seizure medication. Obviously, something physical is involved, which DOES respond to medication.

Personally, I think it's irresponsible to suggest, for whatever reason, someone with bipolar shouldn't take meds. The compliance rate is problematic enough without that type of harmful input. You wouldn't tell someone with diabetes to not take insulin. Bipolar is as much as a physical illness has diabetes.
