My parents. My father is 81 years old, and still gets up twice and week and spends his entire morning at the local soup kitchen, cooking up massive meals for the needy. My mother is the kindest, most decent person I know. I adore them both. And, by the way, they are ardent democrats as well as faithful Mormons. My mother is even working for the Obama campaign in her hometown.

To me, they are the real face of Mormonism - not these silly apologists online who imagine themselves as warriors for the truth, when all they are doing is engaging in belittling tits for tats.

You don't respect any Mormon mentioned on this thread soley and entirely because of their Mormonism?

Of all the people you know, do you respect any Muslims? Jews? Catholics? Buddhists? Wiccans? Republicans? Knights Of Columbus members? Bowling team captains? Vegans? Dentists? Arcade owners? Pumkin pie makers?

How about atheists?

Above most things, I value truth-telling, magnanimity, and independence of thought.

OK.

These are not religious traits.

I would suggest that the traits you mention above can be seen within a wide spectrum of human beings and that their personal "religion", in many/most cases, have almost nothing to do with the personal human qualities you speak of.

I disrespect many people because of what they believe

I know.

Of all the Mormons I know, I disrespect many of them because of the way they practice their Mormonism.

With a bit of contemplation a group of kind faces from the ward I grew up in appear in memory. I respect and am inspired by their kindness and desire to be helpful.I suspect wards all about the land have whole groups of faces reflecting this kindness and belief in community. I respect many people. But I do not respect any of them because of their affiliation with a group, whether religious, secular, or otherwise.

For instance, I respect you, but that respect is not based on your Catholicism. As I said, I do not respect any person who identifies as Mormon simply because of their Mormonism.

Again, I don't see why this is odd. Many profess to believe in good qualities based on a religious code, yet many act in ways that are contradictory to that code. Integrity is important to me - I dislike religious people who claim to love yet show no love. It's very simple.

I know many Mormons, I disrespect many (not all) because of the hypocrisy they show in their preaching and in their acting.

I know that the usual suspects will quickly jump in with the personal attacks, but I think one has to seriously consider Dr. Scratch.

Dr. Scratch has done more, save DCP only, for the Church distancing itself from Mopologetics. His tireless and selfless campaign to root out destructive Mopologists and their crazy antics, will yield measurable and postive results for the Church.
