He used it in reference to the need to look at everything and decide if it is still worth borrowing to pay for it. He has repeatedly made that position an issues. He simply used PBS as one example. In your last post it sounded like you claimed that this was the only cut he is proposing. Sorry if I misunderstood.
And we are not borrowing from the Chinese to fund PBS. That's just dumb. The Chinese own about 8% of the U.S. debt. But that doesn't mean we "borrowed" from them to fund Big Bird.
Have you heard of rhetoric and hyperbole? But we certianly are borrowing from someone to fund a large part of our budget.

I think I have derailed my own thread. I never meant to get into a policy debate about the merits of anything that was said at the debate, really. My point in saying that Romney only mentioned that one specific budget item was to illustrate one reason the Big Bird thing has taken off to the extent it has. If he had given a laundry list of cuts to make and PBS was one on a list of many, I don't think it would have been such a big deal. But because it was the only specific thing, AND he specifically mentioned Big Bird, there just wasn't much else for the comedians and meme-generators to work with.

Anyone who takes my mortgage deduction.

My understanding is that they are proposing capping the mortgage deduction so that it doesn't apply to the big McMansions. Do you have one of those?

No, that was only a one-day trial balloon. Mitt's spokespeople made it clear that the idea of a $17,000 cap on all deductions was just one of many ideas they would look at. Just trust them with your vote and let them hammer out the details with the GOP Congress next year.

A TV program should be run by the private sector. I would put big bird under a want not a need to have.
How do you feel about subsidies to the oil industry? 4 billion dollars a year in oil subsidies cut would fund PBS and 3.6 billion dollars worth of Medicare costs.
