WTF Mormon Jesus? Are you Stupid or What? (link)

After nearly seven months of dispute over a proposed nine-story building as part of the Missionary Training Center in Provo, leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have dropped the building proposal.

You've got THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of 18 year old going on missions and now you change your mind on the MTC remodel?

Maybe with entering 18 year old boys and 19 year old girls, they are going to stop having a co-ed facility, and build a separate facility just for the 19 year old girls, at a considerable distance away, so that the young and single can't mingle.

That announcement was coupled with another: that missionaries would spend a third of the time in the MTC preparing for the field.
What does this mean? That the missionaries will spend a 1/3 of the time at the MTC that they do presently, or a 1/3 of the time spent of their entire mission? (8 months at the MTC)
The Universe is stranger than we can imagine.

The article doesn't phrase it well. The announcement was that missionaries will spend a third less time in the MTC. For example instead of 3 weeks, they spend two weeks.

Time at each of the Church’s 15 Missionary Training Centers (MTCs) will be reduced by one-third for all missionaries.

Brilliant! Get 'em when younger and dumber, then give 'em less training and send them out less prepared. I'm all for less effective missionaries, the less people they can dupe the better.

Well, this all seems a bit rather anti-climactic after the Church's language and actions from just a few short months ago (ie, letter from leaders being read from the pulpit referring to the matter as an "ecclesiastical decision" that members in the affected area were expected to "sustain").

Ah, well. The neighborhood wins. Good for them.
