Was Romney lying...

Post by _Drifting »

...when he said this:
Let me assure you that no authorities of my church, or of any other church for that matter, will ever exert influence on presidential decisions.

Or when he said 'yes' to this:
You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the law of consecration as contained in this, the book of Doctrine and Covenants [he displays the book], in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.

(I don't think this is 'Off Topic' but if the moderators wish to move it then I am okay with that)

I guess the wiggle-room question is whether the Presidency of the United States is something with which the Lord will have blessed Mitt Romney. My guess is that in testimony meetings the answer will be yes, and in press interviews the answer will be of course no.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
