The Stake President really had that "discernment" thing goin' on with this calling!

What's next? Jay Bybee called for an apostle?

I really don't see the problem, you guys. If anything, this shows that God has given Bruce Jesson a chance to make up for things.

He deprived people of sleep.

Now he's going to preside over LDS meetings.

So it balances out.

Spokane is located just across the border from the Idaho panhandle hide-outs for the Aryan Nations and a number of ultra rightwing and survivalist groups, and is a pretty conservative place in its own right. Doubt if such individual would have been appointed as Bishop in Seattle on anywhere else on west side of the Cascade Mountains.

While I don't generally condone torture, there are ways of telling if a person is telling the truth under intense interrogation. by the way I don't really consider sleep deprivation or water boarding as real torture.

I understand that you served in Afghanistan, and can easily understand that if lives are in clear and immediate danger from hostile action, especially as it often unfolds in Afghanistan, why you would consider interrogation "enhancers" such as water-boarding and sleep deprivation to be justified. Under the same circumstances, I would probably agree.

Not sure that someone whose mindset is such that they made this technique a part of their life's work would be the best type of individual to have as a Bishop, however. (I would have made a terrible Bishop, for example - wrong mindset.)

I must be getting old.

I can sort of remember a time when it was understood to be a characteristic of civilized nations that they did not torture enemies who fell into their hands. Countries used to agree not to do that (and, by the way, those agreements did not have conditions such as 'so long as the enemy plays nice').

But of course that doesn't apply anymore, because our enemies nowadays are quite different from what they used to be - they are bad people who want to hurt us and our loved ones. That brings an entirely new factor into play. So it is quite understandable that things are different, and because we are the good guys we can do what we like, and it's all right.

And of course it isn't torture so long as you don't stick sharp objects into people or hit them, or otherwise cause gross irreversible physical damage. Fortunately, there are other things you can do to people physically that are so unpleasant that even the toughest enemy can't stand having them happen for more than a few minutes, however hard they try. But of course they're not torture, so it's fine.

As to water boarding, judges have disagreed.

I consider water-boarding torture. More importantly, Senator John McCain, a man who has endured torture, considers it torture, and he Trump's the opinions of the rest of you, imho.

This works as long as you believe the Cult is reality. If you are a somewhat NOM, then take your Prozac and go to bed. God knows ALL.

Otherwise, it's just a damned cult.

And Daniel Peterson just sits there are watches his cult appoint a man a bishop - a man who created one of the worst ways to torture a man - to lead a whole congregation.

Yep Dan. Your cult could have hired me - someone who has never EVER, EVER considered hurting another human being, yet decided to hire someone who found one of the best ways to torture - as a leader.

Mormonism is BS and this is one of the ways that proves it.

I don't consider Houston a real city; therefore, it isn't.
I don't consider Applebee's a real restaurant; therefore, it isn't.
I don't consider Oklahoma a real university; therefore, it isn't.
I don't consider a quiche-eater a real man; therefore, he isn't.

Is there anything wrong with my logic?
