Obviously this is a temporary situation due to the younger age requirements. It'll be interesting to see what the new normal will be.

Yep. All those youngsters who now suddenly qualify. They'll be dropping out of college to serve the church.
Wonder how BYU will deal with the smaller numbers in the next several semesters.

You know, just the other day I heard that Olivetti plans to start massively increasing its typewriter production, since insufficient supply must be the reason why typewriters are not more competitive with PC's and tablet computers.

This move to me seems somewhat irreversible. If they continue this policy for a few years you'll see the number of missionaries level out. But from that point if they tried to go back to 19 for men and 21 for women you'll see the exact opposite of this happen. The number of missionaries will crash.

A clarification from the KSL article
To clarify, the applications referred to are not submitted applications, rather online applications that have been opened and started.

They are not exactly dropping out of college. Most will go on their mission after high school and then prepare for college when they return. If one thinks about it seriously, they will be more mature to enter college with wonderful study habits.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

You sound like you have a great deal of insight on this issue, Why Me. That must be based on your own experience of what it was like to go back to college after you went on a two-year mission.
Please elaborate on your mission and post-mission experiences, Why Me. Tell the people on the board who actually know what it's like to go on a mission and then get back into college how all this works.

I have two daughters who have served or are serving a mission. Next question?

And in what way did a year and a half of unquestioning acceptance and parroting of the LDS faith-promoting sales pitch help them develop critical thinking skills so they would perform better in college than people who have not served LDS missions?

'have served or are serving..'
What?
Don't you know if they have served are are serving?
