NOM Screws BYU Football (link)

It’s not every year that Notre Dame successfully recruits a star football player from Hawaii, let alone a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who chooses the most renowned Catholic institution over his faith's institution. But that’s the story of Manti Te’o, the linebacker who has garnered rock star-like attention over the four years he’s played for the Irish.
“I prayed about it, and everything pointed towards Notre Dame. Notre Dame is where I came because I was directed to come here,” Te’o said last week before the Irish beat BYU 17-14.

That boy is a damn good football player. Big, fast, and and incredible tackler.

He'll go in the first round. Every once in a while there's a good Mormon football player, Ngata was probably the first good Mormon football player to go high and he'll be up there too.

The fact he's in the running for the Heisman as a linebacker says it all.

Merlin Olson went #3 I believe.

Good call with Merlin Olson.
Shame he's not playing in the SEC and stuck playing against crappy teams for four years. The kids he's playing against right now are slow, small, and don't look like they have promising NFL futures. That's not good preparation for being expected to start in the NFL, especially if you're going to be an 4-3 OLB. It's just in that defensive front you put so much trust in your OLB's, and sure he can do well against at the position against crappy teams.
You just wonder if it might be a little bit of a culture shock to go from covering crappy as crap offenses like BYU, to being expected to step in immediately and be the main producer of a LB corps trying to shut down the Packers or Patriots. Everyone expects their 1st round picks (especially high first round) to step in immediately and help save their team. You can place those expectations on SEC defensive stars but for a fluid position like LB there'll be some growing pains if you're a big fish in a small pond of dirt colleges lol.
But he's got phenomenal instincts, and for a fluid position like OLB in a pass-rushing defense that's worth its weight in gold. No question he'll go first 15, hope the Lions get him. :)

Are you saying Notre Dame has played crappy teams the past 4 years? Am I reading you right?

How many defensive players from the Big East go first two rounds every year?

And... you're right actually they've played good teams lately lol. Don't really follow Notre Dame much.

Re: NOM Screws BYU Football (link)
WOW! That was one of the most asinine articles I have ever read in my entire life! No exaggerations here. Can you imagine the questions being posed by the writer of this article actually being taken serious in any other newspaper outside of the Morridor? I also detect a little jealousy here. Let's look at some of these ridiculous quotes:
I don't think ND gives 2 craps about the religious affiliations of who they recruit. Like any decent team, the goal is to recruit the best. The opening paragraph makes it sound like ND has been foiled at every attempt to recruit a Mormon to their team - until now... There is also some veiled incredulity that Te'o is some kind of sell out for choosing ND over his own faith's school.
Why is his choice a shocker? Sure ND is no USC and maybe ND is a middling program that hasn't matched its hype. But I sure as sh*t guarantee you ND's football program and national hype is 1000X better than BYU's hype and record ever will be. The brand equity and attention ND will garner for Te'o makes up for whatever attention he would have at BYU. Even though they are a so-called "middling" program they still kicked BYU's ass this weekend.
Who wonders these kinds of things? Oh yeah Mormons worry about this. It's all about image. Screw what Te'o thinks is best for his personal career and future. He should be bowing his head and saying "yes" by giving all his time and talent to BYU's program since he's Mormon. Notice how it can't be just about football. It also has to be about making the cult look cool and normal to outsiders to hopefully win some new converts.
I like how the article goes on to conclude that Mormon college athletes who sold out and chose another school instead of BYU, and went pro, never achieved the fame of Steve Young and Danny Ainge who chose the right and played for the Cult's team in college.
Thank God T'executive order is carving his own path rather than spending his time propping up the cult. ND is an infinitely better school then BYU will ever be. Check out his sweet tribal tattoo on his arm. Do you think BYU would honor his culture by allowing the tat? I bet he would be required to wear long sleeves if he played for BYU. Why go play for a crap team that only Utah Mormons care about and be just another Polynesian clone on BYU's team when you could go play for a world renown school and stand out as an original?
