Kateri Tekakwitha was named the first Native American saint today by Pope Benedict XVI in a ceremony held in St. Peter's Square.
What else would we expect from a Lamanite?
"We have taken up arms in defense of our liberty, our property, our wives, and our children; we are determined to preserve them, or die." - Captain Moroni - 'Address to the Inhabitants of Canada' 1775
She may be a saint, but since she hasn't become a Saint, she remains cursed with the skin of blackness, even in this icon:
When do you think there might be a Lamanite prophet?
(But are there still supposed to be any Lamanites around after they changed the wording of the preface to the Book of Mormon?)
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)
I have a fondness for American Saints. It's been nice calling her Blessed, even better to call her a Saint.
Santca Kateri ora pro nobis!
Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction -Pope Benedict XVI
It's interesting how angry it can make me. When I was Mo, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that native Americans (both North and South) were Lamanites. Every piece of material I had my hands on from Cult leaders said so. Book of Mormon header said so. Book of Mormon said so. Joe Smith said so. Spencer Kimball created placement programs to educate the Lamanite and even commented their skins were getting whiter.
It wouldn't be so bad if the Cult apologized - but they didn't. Instead, they silently changed all of the wording. Told us we were misinformed. Told us we were wrong - and the information we had wasn't properly inspired or interpreted. We then got called liars and crappy members for continuing to believe lies.
And I look back and realize how deceived I was by the cult. They got my time, they got my money.
As far as I know, saint is a member of the "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints", whatever it means.
A Catholic saint is something abominable.
Please teach me about something different... (I don't care the lamanites, theirs definition is ambiguous.)
