I was gonna suggest that maybe it's an age thing, but Rage was formed in 1991, so that's not really it either.
I guess in my case, since I've actually heard this song before, more than once, it's just that the music made more of an impression on my mind than the lyrics in the Rage case, but the lyrics were more memorable to me in the Mellencamp case.
