Everyone is an arsehole.

Not inappropriate, in my opinion. I think LDST was simply expressing his impatience and disdain for this type of matter, and reminding everyone discussing it that there are real life consequences.

I'm probably missing some backstory somewhere. Yes, in some rare instances, merely carrying on a conversation on a public message board could have significant consequences in someone's life. But, given the nature of the conversation we were having here, I can't see a significant chance of that happening. For better or worse, L' Affair Twede (sorry for mangling the French) was a national news story. His public resignation from the church was a regional news story. What we've been discussing is information found in newspapers or voluntarily provided by the participants. Should we really just not talk about it out of the concern that someone might read what we've posted and do... what exactly?

I'm not sure that trying to puzzle out a complex set of facts that don't quite add up is on par with speculating on who might be sleeping with whom or whether some LDS woman was wearing her garments in a photo or other gossipy type thing. But, like I said, it's not the first time I'd be wrong.

True. However, on this forum people usually treat me like crap not realizing that there is a real life person behind the screen. Hypocrisy is wonderful if your take on LDST is true.

We also need to remember that someone made this story public and it seems that that person was David when he wrote a blog piece and the MormonThink board when they went with the Romney angle.

It is hard to put the worms back in the can when the story is not going the way it was intended.

You didn't, people are allowed to carry on as they want here. It is both a strength and a weakness for the forum. LDS Toronto is allowed to express his take on what is going on and you are allowed to carry on as you wish. Given the nature of what you are discussing, I cannot think of a better place for it to take place. At least there will not be any claims of moderation influence. Some will agree with LDS and others want to hear what you have to say. There will be a lot of "Guests" monitoring what you and Wiki have to say.

Thanks, Fence Sitter. That makes sense. And I have no problem with being called an arsehole or to STFU. I just thought I might have smacked up against a piece of board culture I wasn't aware of. I've lurked here enough to know to show up wearing a cup, mouthpiece, and helmet.
