How can basics of human life be secular to a believer?

There are so many things I love about this work. On the top of my list are the patterns on mother and father's clothing, the look on mother's face, the exposed nylon garment top, and the way these angels don't show restraint on proximity to each other, flowing like water.

Here is a small version:

The massive painting now resides in the BYU MOA.

The art is kind of interesting. My comments on the nativity scene are 1) why is Mary shown being so immodest? Doesn't she know that she should cover herself and the baby when breastfeeding AND 2) from the looks of baby Jesus it is clear that Joseph is not the biological father.

I realized from watching "The Passion of the Christ" that Jesus can easily be identified in most western Christian art: he's the white guy with good teeth.

First of all, you can tell by the brush strokes that he drew the foreground characters first and then painted the background colors around them. . . an enormous no-no. Second, he clearly needs to find out what a "shadow" is. Third, outlining everything in black is a beginner's (but nevertheless huge) mistake. Fourth, he needs to learn what color the sky is.

Another guy who just wouldn't follow the rules. He never amounted to much.

I have talked with Brian more than once. He is an exceptional person as well as a fine artist.

what are the angels on the right hand side looking up at , certainly not mary- maybe the choir singing upstairs in the heavens ; and the joseph with hishand over his eyes symbolizes what?

overall i like the overall flow of the painting- of long gowns and bodies and long necks and no necks and white hair and no hair and faces that look like lots of cousins.

just sayin
