I suspect that your thoughts of Mel Gibson's movie portraying reality are connected with your religious beliefs in the fictional writings of the Book of Mormon. It is a racist movie and the teachings of Mormonism about the American Indians are also racist. Your perception of "the real problem of the Native Americans" is not for you or Mormonism to fix. They are winning without your help.
My thoughts to Mary about the movie was not to condone the movie but to show her just how that lamanites were depicted by Mel Gibson. And he was not far from the truth.
Listening to the video I got the impression that all was peaceful among the natives until the white man came.

My point is simple. What he wrote would be acceptable in any sunday school class discussing skin color or color imagery. No apostacy.

Which wasn't the question.
Now answer the question or admit that you cannot find 'a single LDS leader who has ever taught that the dark skin given to the Lamanites was merely symbolic'....

It is their story not the story of LDS professors so it makes perfect sense to close with the experiences of an actual "Laminite" and not with some LDS talking head.
You would be singing a different tune if it were against the catholic church, filming and interviewing priests and nuns without them knowing it. And then have a professor condemn the catholic church for its colonial policies without a rebuttal.
It wasn't against the LDS church it was about the experience of modern day "Laminites". And no I wouldn't be singing a different tune if it was the story of people who have been impacted by the Catholic church. From the current abuse scandal to the washer women in Ireland and banking issues I've seen many things that show bad things about the church I don't take issue with those stories and have more often than not been left furious with the church and sympathetic to those affected by the churches actions.
By the way do you think the LDS people would have made up different answers if they knew they were being filmed? That they would have been less honest or forthcoming with their answers about their beliefs about "Laminites" if they knew other people would hear their responses?

Who knows. We will never know since the documentary filmed people secretly...and edited it accordingly. Thus, the problem with the documentary. Also, the Mormon side was not presented at all. Also, the critics were professional people, the LDS were just normal people on a mission or in a play. Thus, the problem too.

The native americans were not a peaceful people and neither were the ancient central americans. They were killing each other, engaged in slavery and human sacrifice. But listening to the native americans, I only heard a people who lived in peace until the white man came.
Maybe they are in historical denial.

Did film's producer know about this guy? Why didn't he interview a Native American success story? Why not have him speak in his classes? Ahhh....maybe that is not on his agenda.

Bumpage...
Is this still 'bumping' or is it now 'trying to nail jello to the wall'....

Why Me, for goodness sake. No one is arguing that Native American's and other indigenous groups throughout the Pacific didn't have their own culture's, religious beliefs, wars and the such like. What on earth are you on about.
The subject here is the effect of the teachings of the Book of Mormon on various groups of people who had been historically identified as Lamanites and the effect of this on their image and feelings of self-worth, and actually whether those teachings had any basis in historical (and religious) truth and reality.
That is the subject. Can you stick to the point?
