On at least some level, we human beings all seem capable to deliver, partake, and/or practice in these things.
While some tend to display these things more often, in larger doses, and on wider scales, it seems to appear within and around the entire human race (both past and present)
If we were able to be neutral and remove these 'masks', what do you think we would find and/or see beneath them?
What do you suppose the evolutionary purpose of such emotions is? Anger serves as protection, probably. And as a motivator to self protection. Vitriol a kind of defence, looking for weapons to protect oneself. Angst is fear, essentially, isn't it. Also important for self protection.
I speaking from a primary evolutionary standpoint. They must serve a purpose. Is that a good place to start?
Are you suggesting that anger, vitriol, and angst are undesirable emotions which ought to be done away with?
"Others cannot endure their own littleness unless they can translate it into meaningfulness on the largest possible level." ~ Ernest Becker "Whether you think of it as heavenly or as earthly, if you love life immortality is no consolation for death." ~ Simone de Beauvoir

I have always maintained that we all have more in common than we have differences. That is why it really hurts me that we can't all find a way to get along. We all tend to strike out when we feel ourselves or those we care about are in danger. That was why Jersey Girl spoke out on the whole Darrick issue, and was banned for it. That is why I lashed out, and ended up stepping down as Mod.
We are all human. We all have families, friends, people we care about, and people who care about us. I think it would be wise for all of us to remember that as we participate on these boards.

I think the best thing for each of us to do now would be to take steps to repeat these wise counsels to those we regard as our particular friends in the online world of this board.
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
I'm more familiar with the human tendancy to have an angry face behind a happy mask.
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

No, I was "suggesting" no such thing. Why would you "suggest" that I was?
As I thought the OP clearly staed, I was asking for opinions/thoughts about what we might see/find if we were able to look beneath these things.

We would see frailty, insecurity and doubt.
