Mitt Romney Discusses Mormonism
This Youtube video was just posted two days ago. In it Mitt Romney clarifies what he believes to be the LDS church's beliefs on the second coming and abortion to a Iowa based talk-show host.

Re: Mitt Romney Discusses Mormonism
Probably the most interesting thing he said.

If what he is saying is true, wouldn't that make the church pro-choice?
"But the church does not say that a member of our church has to be opposed to allowing choice in society. It does not say that," Romney continues. "And therefore, there are Mormon Democrats. There's a Democratic Party in Utah filled with Mormons and the Church doesn't say they're wrong, they're being excommunicated. No, it says we are vehemently opposed to abortions ourselves, but we allows others to make their own choice."

Abortion has been legalized by governing entities without regard for God and His commandments. Scriptures state repeatedly that people will prosper only if they obey the commandments of God. Individuals will prosper only when they walk in faith and obedience to God

The Church has not favored or opposed legislative proposals or public demonstrations concerning abortion.

I think whoever runs the newsroom site might need to confer with church leaders about what they do and do not believe.

“One cause of the diminishing birthrate is the practice of abortion. Worldwide, there are estimated to be more than 40 million abortions per year. Many laws permit or even promote abortion, but to us this is a great evil.”

Someone really needs to compile all the instances of "LDS Newsroom vs LDS.org" for a special section on MormonThink.com or something. This crap's straight up cray cray.

If no one else wants to I'll start a thread on it later today.
Though I guess you could say that they are not opposed to legislation that disregards God and is a "great evil?"

I think it's more likely the the FP/12 should coordinate what they do and do not believe with whomever runs the newsroom site.

Re: Mitt Romney Discusses Mormonism
When I read the part you quoted, I interpreted it to mean Romney was saying the Church does not excommunicate anyone for advocating a pro-choice position, not for someone actually having an abortion as you inferred.Stormy Waters wrote:Probably the most interesting thing he said. . . .
At this point I am genuinely nauseated every time I hear Romney's voice, so I am not going to listen to check out it, but is it possible that's what he meant?
Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)

Yours is probably the better and more accurate interpretation.
