The church dodged a very big bullet today. They may not appreciate it, but a Romney win would have accelerated the church's major problems they are experiencing these days.

That is one reason why I detached from the results. There are THREE branches of the government. The Constitution will prevail.

I'm happy with the outcome for political reasons. But had Jon Huntsman somehow made it to the nomination instead of Romney (I know, would never happen), I'd have voted for the Mormon in the race.

I think Huntsman is all of the things people wanted to believe Romney might be (business smart/capable of governing) - only sincere. Well, for a politician anyway.

Many people have been crying over the last four years, especially those who have lost jobs and homes. I don't believe that many of those who lost homes during the last four years will be owning their own home too soon. And good jobs are hard to come by. Maybe after four more years of racking up the debt, we all will be crying and our grandchildren too.

My point is tough for unwitting fools like you to see. The president has very little to do with the massive complex machine known as the economy.

On a personal note, I was able to save my home from foreclosure BECAUSE of a program instituted under the president that you claim has done nothing good.

There is more than one issue of concern.

Our Bishop spent a considerable amount of time and money towards educating Catholics in our diocese regarding immigration issues. Republicans are a disaster for immigration policy. Romney campaigned on a platform of denying people education and other services. When he said in the second debate that he would make life so hard for people that they would leave....that sealed Obama's vote for me. That is a crappy way to treat people, and there is no excuse for it.

I also don't have the Mormon idea that I exist to protect Catholic institutions. We need to be innovative. Our call as Christians to help the poor, sick, dying, imprisoned, widowed, etc. does not cease because of government policy.

In other words, you are making a poor argument.

While I appreciate hyperbole and rhetoric, the far majority of priests aren't child abusers. Am I happy with how the whole "situation" was handled? Of course not. However, I don't believe the answer lies with politicians, of any stripe. Neither am I a Protestant, who holds the view that Christ has left the Catholic Church and now we all must go searching for where He went.
