i think ward members love to hear of members stepping out and placing/giving away a Book of Mormon.
my questions are 2: why did you not get a new Book of Mormon( there are stacks in the clerk/bishops office) rather than rummage through the "left at church " cart of Book of Mormon's , Bibles and Quads usually at the back entrance to the building and second what kind of relationship do you have with Jim to have made your encounter so 'frutiful".
As a nevermo with 30+ years of 3 hour blocks with TBM my wife I see priesthood holders in this part of VA extremely reluctant to talk about being Mormon much less give a Book of Mormon away with dialogue- some have spoken of placing like a secret santa gift or handing to the person on the way out of the office or in a quick moment when dialogue is shortlived.
just wondering

Because I'm cheap? No, really, there just happened to be a pristine missionary Book of Mormon in this box and it simultaneously reminded me to get one for my friend as well as providing a good copy. If it had been ratty, I would have approached the missionaries for a freebie.

I remember being that way myself back in the day when I conflated Mormonism's truth claims with my own personal identity and sense of worth. Since learning more about Mormonism from the other side of the coin, I have become more comfortable with discussing its truth claims as simply claims without feeling the need to advance them or get the other person to agree with me. I am better able to talk about Mormonsm as an interesting conversation piece rather than a religion I am trying to convert the other person to.
It does wonders, really.
Thanks for the questions.
All the Best!

I cannot think of a greater example of true love.

"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

The course of true love never did run smooth.

The cool thing is that I don't have to cower in fear of such a possibility any more.
I'm not out to convert.
It is so liberating!!!
In the name of cheese and rice.
Amen.
