Do Mormons mostly Google themselves?
Thought this was kind of funny. Almost all of the worldwide search traffic for 'Mormon' is in the US. And nearly all of the US traffic is in...Utah! This holds for other terms like 'Mormonism', 'joseph smith', 'the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints', 'the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints', etc. Compare it to a term like 'Jesus' where the US doesn't have the highest volume and Utah doesn't have the highest volume within the US. Or compare to other churches, for example. Kinda interesting.

Re: Do Mormons mostly Google themselves?
I think people have a tendency to google themselves or things that they are fimiliar with. If I grew up outside of Mormonism, I don't think I'd be interested in it. For example I haven't done a lot of research about Jehovah's Witnesses or Scientologists. So I would guess that outside of Mormonism, people are just not that interested in Mormonism.
Also interesting that prior to the election cycle it appears to be trending downwards.

Yes, I think you're right. I drive almost all of the searches for my name on google

Only one result relevant to me on the first two pages.
I am doing well.
I Googled "Russell McGregor" (that is not what I typed-- grr) last week, and the results were busy.

Check this out in google trends when you add the term "porn addiction"
http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=porn%20addiction&geo=US&cmpt=q
UT clearly leads the rest of the country on this search trend. This begs a few questions.
1. Is porn addiction a bigger problem in UT than the rest of the US?
2. Is the definition of porn addiction drastically different in UT than the rest of the US?
3. Why do Utahns seem to be more preoccupied with porn addiction than the rest of the US?

Tapirs... Yeah... That's the ticket!

I think often in Mormon culture any degree of porn use is qualified as "porn addiction."

Yeah, I vote for #2 for the same reason. Also, it's funny and interesting that Utah ranks very low in the US for 'porn' but highest in the US for the full term 'pornography'. Also, Texas appears to lead the country for terms one would actually use to find porn.

Ok, so, this is weird.

Edit: Just realized that as with ordinary search you need to encapsulate the entire phrase in quotes if you want data on that phrase as opposed to some measure of its members. ""how to murder"" returns extremely different results from "how to murder".

Sure. How many times do I google "Catholic"? None. No offense intended.

I guess what's sort of interesting is that it seems that the Mormon church spends a lot more on online advertising, so it's a bit surprising that there isn't much in the way of googling and such outside of Utah.
