You do? Pretty well connected to the inner works of BYU as a hostile ex Mormon and an ex-pat living in Brazil. I'm impressed.

They had no valid excuse not to hire him, other than the fact that he had the audacity to associate with known apostates.

Are you referring to David Wright, his advisor? If so, BYU knew about this relationship many many many many years before they brought him on as an assistant prof

Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. I got my information straight from the source as the ordeal transpired. I haven't lived in Brazil for more than two years now, but what does my address have to do with anything anyway?

I never said otherwise, but they did ask him how his relationship with Wright affected his testimony. But it was his online activity on the forums that made them change their minds. They were monitoring him even while he was a trusted apologist. They interrogated him about this relentlessly, particularly a comment he made in response to Dan Vogel where he expressed sympathy for one of his views. He didn't agree with Vogel, but he was very charitable and Christlike in his response, which is antithetical to the BYU way. Because he didn't go off on him with the vicious FARMS style rhetoric, they figured he was too much of a risk. You can't sit there and tell me that had nothing to do with denying him full time employment when in fact that's what they kept asking him over and over, in multiple "interviews."

Dr. Shades wrote:This has always baffled me. The mere fact that you married one seems, to me, to be prima facie proof that you have no ill feelings toward Mormon men.

I don't agree. Most men accused of misogyny are married to women or have daughters, and that isn't prima facie proof that they don't have something against women.

This person didn't believe William Schryver had engaged in misogyny in any way, shape, or form in spite of all of the evidence that I documented in my thread, so s/he must have felt that the evidence for my dislike of Mormon males was really, really overwhelming. And yet, s/he couldn't muster anything apart from pointing out that most of my heated public disagreements with LDS apologists have been with men. Apparently there are binders full of female LDS apologists somewhere that I am giving a pass to because of their gender.

Never mind that this all came to a head in a thread where I had just critiqued the writings of a Mormon woman who had published in the Interpreter.

What surprised me about the whole thing is that Liz was pretty much booted from moderating and posting at MAD for the same reason that she booted just me from her forum: a false and groundless accusation of spreading behind-the-scenes information.

Guess Christmas came early for Nemesis this year...

For the record, Just Me was temporarily suspended, not banned. Her full rights to post on my board have been restored, and I issued a private apology to her regarding the suspension. I was under a tremendous amount of stress at the time. Her rights were installed about two days after she was suspended. I also offered to restore Sock Puppet's rights, but he voluntarily chose to discontinue posting. He is not banned from my board, either.

I will be addressing Scratch's post later. Thank you, Shades, for deleting the in real life information and lies from his post that would have caused problems for me in real life.

I am very sick since my Lupus is acting up, not that that matters to anyone here. According to Scratch, I have no friends left here.

I am sorry to hear this, Liz!

According to Scratch, I have no friends left here.

You have one in Ceeboo!

Hey Scratch

As I find to be the case quite often with you, this OP was another example displaying your beautiful gift to write. I (almost) always enjoy reading how you place your words on the canvas. (A little jealous at times too)

Your top 2 happenings seem to be clearly and firmly in their correct spots!

Merry Christmas to you too, Scratch!

Peace,

I am genuinely sorry to hear that, and wish you strength to endure this, and a rapid improvement.

While I am not sure I would want to use the word 'friend' about any person with whom I have interacted only anonymously and in very limited ways, I think there are few if any people here who wish you any personal harm. (Even Scratch would, I think, regret it if you left the board, since I think he gains some satisfaction from sparring with you from time to time.) Most, I think, would welcome news of any good fortune you may have in your resistance to our common human enemy - disease. That does, I suppose, at least amount to being 'friendly' even if it does not make one a friend in the strict sense of the word. I hope all that does not sound too robotic!

I too hope that you are feeling better and echo what Chap has said.

For what it is worth, every time someone has mentioned an illness or family emergency on this board, the vast majority of posts, that I have seen, responding to that have been positive.

I would hope that no one here is so full of hate that he/she would wish physical distress on anyone else.

1) Thanks to those who've offered up thanks. Happy holidays!

2) I echo those who wish Liz a speedy recovery.

From Dr Scratch's yearly Top Ten list, there seems to always be two that stand out for me personally.

For 2012, they are, drum roll please...

Facebook outing DCP's viewing of "Pitbull get a boner dancing with Jennifer Lopez (Hot Booty Shaking)." It is a provocative, fun video. This episode shows Facebook is not StealthBook. And, while DCP's having viewed it was not noteworthy, his Lady McBeth denial of it was too damn funny and revealing about his psyche and self-image.

Dr Greg Smith's John Dehlin "Hit Piece". It seemed to be the final straw that broke the camel's back, and the ensuing 'sacking' of DCP at NAMIRS by Director Gerald Bradford (#1 on Dr Scratch's 2012 list). Dr Smith has been, and continues to be, such a treasure trove of mopologetic missteps. There was the Roper-to-Dr Smith revelation 3 three years ago of the unsigned Carla Ogden Fax that DCP and Hambone had spun up into a "2nd Watson Letter" that DCP held in his own two little hands and saw with his own two eyes. Of course, there's no such thing as the theretofore mythical "2nd Watson Letter". Quite unwittingly, Dr Smith (with an assist from Matt Roper) led to the demise of DCP and Hambone's fabricated myth--so needed to give theological room for the LGT. Poof! It's gone. THE Hill Cumorah, both of Book of Mormon mention and JSJr folklore, is according to the FP the same little drumlet near Palmyra, New York. The Only ("1st") Watson Letter is the last official pronouncement on the issue, and those that disagree are heretical to the pronouncements of the FP. Thanks, Dr Smith. That was better than a house call.

Then there was Dr Smith's gushing over Will Schryver's then upcoming Cipher Theory of KEP. "Schryver has, I think, pretty much killed, buried, and nailed the coffin shut on the idea the KEP are the 'translation documents' of the Book of Abraham, and then thrown the coffin into Mount Doom, before dropping Mt Doom under the continental plates." A Book of Abraham mystery to be solved at FAIR Conference, by Michael De Groote, Deseret News, 7/29/2010.

And in 2012, out of his OCD came Dr Smith's having researched and written an extensive hit piece aimed at John Dehlin. In the skirmish that ensued at NAMIRS over whether it would be published (not--John Dehlin having even involved a GA by e-mail into the fray), the old FARMS bunch got the boot from their beloved NAMIRS.

Dr Smith, prey tell what missteps your obsession against Mormon criticism will be for 2013. It seems the circumstances are just pregnant with possibilities. When is delivery expected?

Apart from these two, honorable mention must go out to DCP's and Schryver's participation in the comment section of TIME Lighthouse piece regarding Brian Shumway's photo essay about Happy Valley, and DCP falling for Pahoran's unvetted mania that Dr Scratch = Chino Blanco, and DCP tucking tail and deleting the posts and comments from his blog, issuing only an explanatory defense of himself rather than any real apology to Chino Blanco.
