I don't remember where I read it since it was so long ago, but here is a quick search result

http://www.utlm.org/newsletters/no69.htm

I am only putting forth a personal suspicion based on my own experience with the Book of Abraham issue and what little I remember of his statements..

Thanks.

Ferguson was still naïve and very uninformed about Church doctrine. But, then, those who worship at Dr. Sorenson's altar, or Meldrum's for that matter, are equally uninformed.

No , here's just a few changes in Mormonism. Maybe you would like to post some changes in Evangelic Christianity, you have a lot more years to find them

I would say the same as I said to Robert F Smith. Instead of attacking the man deal with what he said and show why you think it is wrong. I think these men have a far better understanding of church doctrine then you want to give them credit for.

Simply, Book of Mormon geography is irrelevant speculation. That is doctrine. (Pres. Anthony Ivins, CR April 1921).

So you were being unfair in attacking him instead of dealing with what he said and why you think it is wrong.

His arrogance prevented him from accepting criticism -- he wasn't teachable. Like telling the king that he has no clothes on!! What I received from him in 1975 on the Book of Mormon was so sophomoric that knew that he was beyond help. He was impervious to rationale discussion.

Won't be the first time that someone has done something for the wrong reasons.

He didn't do it for the wrong reasons. Nothing wrong with wanting to find evidence about a book he believed at the time was about a real people. I suspect while he saw the lack of evidence as well as mounting against the Book of Mormon as very troubling, I suspect the papyri being found and the Book of Abraham issue may have done even more damage to his testimony. The Book of Abraham really is the smoking gun, and when you look at the whole picture it only gets worse.

Funding the NWAF under the childish belief that such a secular enterprise would result in finding, say, Arnold Friberg's Norway in America is probably as big a misdirection as anyone could pursue. Had he understood anthropology (and archeology), he would never have made such silly assumptions. The same applies to his irrational expectations and understanding of the Book of Abraham. Mittens,
This is a total derail and probably ought to go into its own topic, but you know that evangelical christianity is only about 100 years older than Mormonism........ right? And that there is also a wide range of views in evangelical christianity, and that there is a difference between evangelical and fundamental christianity?

It would be nice to see you deal with what he says and not attack the man. It is a poor apologetic, and childish. He probably had more reasons then most to maintain belief, and he did at least publicly.

I suspect he assumptions may fall more in line with what the Book of Mormon says and the church has taught then your assumptions.

The same applies to his irrational expectations and understanding of the Book of Abraham.

It doesn't take much to realize Joseph was making it up, but when you look at all the evidence this was a trait of the man.

Well then we are both well on our way to Hell.
