Romney didn't say this. But Obama said, “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”. Should the president be making statements like this? According to many Muslims, ANY criticism of Muhammad is slander.

The President is not Muslim, and he didn't say "the future must not belong to those who "criticize" the prophet of Islam."

So what is the deal? I don't understand why you think this should bother anyone.

The impulse towards intolerance and violence may initially be focused on the West, but over time it cannot be contained. The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied. (Applause.)

This was a response to the anti-Mohammed film that was triggering potentially dangerous riots in the mid-east.

The president could have easily included the pope and the LDS prophet in his list, and it would not have been out of place.

But as it happens, the video about Muhammed was occupying the international stage at the time, not any other religious intolerance.

I doubt Richard knew how much the missing context mattered. The right-wing entertainment media complex likely didn't alert its listeners/readers that crucial context was missing. If you google the phrase Richard quoted, it's all over the right-wing entertainment media complex.

That sounds a bit harsh. Perhaps he was simply repeating some misinformation he heard at the Fox Advocacy Group. Some of their listeners actually believe that stuff, while others simply repeat it because it suits their purpose.

I doubt Richard cared much if his quote portrayed reality or not. Just that it supported his point of view. If he was concerned about being truthful, he could have easily checked before posting.

I think that is my biggest complaint with right wing propaganda. Truth is secondary to dogma. I think that position is held by the very religious, as well.
