to be fair it should be noted that the increases in welfare recipients owes a lot to the broader allowances for who may qualify, that is to say, the bar has been lowered for who may receive assistance.

To me this is a typical Democratic tactic to subdue people (such as their tradition of keeping minorities impoverished - hmm, remind me again which party wrote those Jim Crow laws??).

This is like a building that for years has had stairs...the building owners recognize that some people struggle climbing those stairs...so, they install an escalator...thus helping those who are disadvantaged by traditional stair climbing but still deserve access to the next level....but what do we see?
we see that access to this escalator is not limited to those who truly need it...but that access is granted to all, in the name of "equality"...and thus able bodied people crowd the escalator, forgoing the traditional stair for the "easier way"....ultimately this escalator metaphor can be extrapolated to depict a system that encourages degradation of a population at the expense of the virtue found in self-sufficiency.

AH, more hating on the poor and afflicted. You go boys! I'm sure your God and Church is really proud of you.

Nevermind that virtually every study has shown food stamp usage increases or decreased based on the state of the economy. It increased during the Bush recession as well.

76% of SNAP households included a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person. These vulnerable households receive 83% of all SNAP benefits. [i]
SNAP eligibility is limited to households with gross income of no more than 130% of the federal poverty guideline, but the majority of SNAP households have income well below the maximum: 83.4% of SNAP households have gross income at or below 100% of the poverty guideline ($19,090 for a family of three in 2012), and 61% of SNAP households have gross income at or below 75% of the poverty guideline ($14,318 for a family of three in 2012). [ii]
The average SNAP household has a gross monthly income of $744, net monthly income of $338, and countable resources of $331. [iii]

Actually, its quite the opposite, which at some level I actually suspect you know full well, but admitting to which would dump ice water on your entire ideological template, and then, no more grandiose moral posturing as one of the Anointed.

Nevermind that virtually every study has shown food stamp usage increases or decreased based on the state of the economy.

Huh? No kidding. That's what bc is saying.

Despite the empirical problems with official government statistics such as this, what's the point? The economy is in recession (regardless of what carefully constructed charts and graphs may say - the empirical realities are the clincher here) and is headed for a double dip. Dependence on government is skyrocketing, reaching into the middle class. That's the problem we face.

And of course, soon all of us will be dependent upon the state for life and death decisions as to our healthcare. Just imagine Kevin as vice deputy undersecretary of the People's Ministry of Health, Happiness, and Well-Being.

So the economy is both in recession and headed for a double dip recession.

Just imagine Kevin as vice deputy undersecretary of the People's Ministry of Health, Happiness, and Well-Being.

Because there is nothing virtuous about being generous with another man's earnings.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

It is about helping people. It is not about messaging your virtue. The world is likely better off if you keep that to yourself.
