Another myth. This guy has been on Hannity's show a half dozen times over the past six months and the last notable thing he said was he believed journalists should press on with questions about Bill Ayers! He's also been very cozy with folks like Romney and Bush.

Come on...pleeeeeeease. These two are friends, he's been a key element of the beltway social and political scene for decades (if you don't understand the Woodward has always been a committed liberal (not a leftist perhaps, like yourself, but a Cold War era center/left liberal Democrat, then you shouldn't even be in this discussion), and wants to preserve his access. Perhaps he spoke in anger, originally, and later wanted to moderate his tone. That's his prerogative, but at this juncture, much of it is a matter of semantics. In any case, he's still holding to the claim that inappropriate and unprofessional pressure was brought to bear on him through those comments, and, as we now have a second witness to similar behavior, what we most likely are looking at is just yet another window into the Chicago machine politics Obama brought to Washington from his old stomping grounds.

Woodward is a registered Democrat and probably, in a modern context, would be termed a "centrist" (moderate liberal) and has long been a hero on the Left for his major role in discrediting Nixon. His politics are liberal, but not far-left (like most of the leftists in here) and he's no radical. The Woodward "myth" meme has just been born over the last few days, and Woodward is about to find out, as David Horowitz and many other have long known, what happens to apostates from the leftist faith, especially when they're in the throes of a full-blown cult of personality centered in an iconic, messianic figure who is one of them and represents their vision.

The ferocity with which the media/political left is tearing into one of their own for daring to hold to account a cult figure of apparently mesmerizing power leading their fundamentalist secular region of utopian infantilism was both predictable and presaged by many similar episodes in the past. All one needs to know to see that the squealing from the swaying masses that Woodward was never really a liberal at all is nothing more than politically motivated damage control is the sheer visceral intensity of the assault on someone who has never drawn fire from the mainstream Left in forty years.
