Worst Summer Job Ever?

Post by _Everybody Wang Chung »

One summer when I was a teenager, I worked for an asphalt company. It was backbreaking, hotter than hell and dangerous. I was making $5.00 an hour and I thought I was the shiz.

That summer made me realize I was not cut out for that kind of work.

What was your worst job?

Night loading. When I was in school I took a temporary job restocking shelves at a department store during the Christmas season.

We would go in at midnight and work until 8:00 AM. My twenty year old body didn't care for staying awake all night and attending collage during the day.

Staying awake became brutally difficult and drinking gallons of coffee was the only cure. The store did not turn off the holiday music during the night. Eight hours of Christmas carols while fighting to keep my eyes open. I still don't like listening to Christmas carols.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Quasimodo,

My hats off to you. That sounds like a horrible job and much worse than my asphalt job.

I don't know how you did it.

I dunno, I've seen guys working with hot asphalt on hot summer days. It looks brutal.

Fortunately, my worst job only lasted a month.

Quasimodo,

I've thought about this and realized that my father actually had a job MUCH worse than mine while he was a college student.

His job was, and I kid you not, a "Turkey Masturbator". He had to collect turkey semen.

I guess I shouldn't complain about having a job working on hot asphalt when my father was jerking turkeys off in order to put himself through school.

I pretty much enjoyed my summer jobs.
I was an apprentice mechanic in a transmission shop, a choker in a hillside log skidding crew in a gorgeous mountain side south of Jackson Hole, and a partsmonkey at a Checkers.

Ok, the Checkers one was meh, but I did get a good discount on parts for my builds.

I do have a buddy that worked in artificial insemination for a cattle operation, both collecting and depositing sides. Sounds about like the turkey job.

Chicken Chaser and vaccinator

Get up at 3:30am, run through the coop and grab 4-5 birds in each hand, hold them for their injection, than put them back. Dirty, stinky, leaves some kind of feather build up on your lungs if you get an X-ray, and of course, it only pays minimum wage.

I suppose bill collecting could be a worse job than even this for me. But even these two don't hit the misery level of being a high school teacher.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Worst job: dishwasher at Sambo's. Easiest/funnest job: video arcade attendant.

I remember eating at the Sambo's in Ogden as a kid. It was a good place. Too bad for the racism.

fishing boat in the bearing sea with offloads at dutch harbor, alaska. same docks you see on deadliest catch. summer of 91, just months before the perfect storm on the east coast.

actually. scratch that. worst? summers as an intern, associate and VP investment banker. by far worse than catching fish.
