You seem to be suggesting that Joseph Smith was a liar and should not be believed....yes?
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

Well, what is a liar. Someone which know the truth, but hide it from public. He was married with other women since 1831. He denied to the public, because it was forbidden by law to be married with more than one wife at the same time. And, he wasn't only married with women who are not married (single), he married also women which are married to another men. And he forced them to marry him, as the case of Zina Jacobs prooved it. Yes, he was a liar! At least in the polygamy case

Joseph was only sealed to "two" so-called "under-aged" (though not actually considered under-aged in that time) out of what, 30-50 alive or dead him/them.
Joseph wasn't much of a pervert.

Man is sexual in nature and God made it so through the advantage sexual reproduction posed in the evolutionary process.
I don't think that Joseph Smith was really a pervert. I think all the power that he had went to his head(s) and he already had a more than healthy sexual appetite. After “marrying” several grown women, I think the need for something different drove him to other men’s wives and then on to younger and younger women. While still a TBM but starting to doubt, I developed the idea that maybe God took him out to prevent him from going too far. But then I started reading about the Book of Abraham and the light came on.

Define "not much of a pervert". Could I use that as a defense in court? "I'm only half a pervert, your honor."

I have few problems with the juvenile women of Joseph Smith; than with the women who were already married to other men.
But did they live with both men at the same time or travel back and forth in an actual marriage relationship with each? And what about their sealings? Does that always equate to a marriage relationship in this life? The answer to both questions of course, is no. The facts on the ground don't match the sordid criticisms.
BC, one thing about sealings that I don't understand. Why did both Joseph and Brigham Young, at times, take it upon themselves to seal themselves to women who were already married to faithful Church members who held the priesthood?
Other than showing the power they could wield over these couples, I don't see a positive purpose in this.
This is a sincere question, not a "gotcha" question.

ldsfaqs claims that girls as young as 14 were not considered under-aged for the time. While obviously in some instances and places this might have been true, was it actually true in Smith's time and place? Can ldsfaqs' claim be substantiated?

It was viewed as a way to guarantee salvation (rightly or wrongly) for themselves and their posterity. Also, be aware that MEN were also sealed to the prophets too.
