October 19, 1781- Cornwallis surrenders to Washington at Yorktown
It's kind of amazing that an army of peasants won their freedom from a world power.
Had the 2nd war of independence been successful, I'd say to see Gen. Jackson rallying the Confederates at Manassas to drive a superior force off Virginian soil.

And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Re: What day in American History would you have witnesed?
Obviously a lot of good days. It would be interesting to to "witness" the D-Day landings, or the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
I wouldn't go for the moon landing because while the emotion of the event would be incredible, watching it on TV would be the same back then as it is now.
But that being said, I'd really like to go back to May 25, 1977 and see a 70mm screening of "Star Wars" on opening day at the Chinese Theater:

I lived nearby in 1999 and walked over to the Chinese theater the night Episode 1 opened (though I didn't see it until the crowds died down 2 days later). Not quite the same...
That would be great. "Excuse me brother Joseph. Just want to get in here with a tape measure..."

Or least when Joseph Smith received the papyrus into his possession and unrolled them.
That would be great. "Excuse me brother Joseph. Just want to get in here with a tape measure..."

Did they do a good job with the moon wind?
The amazing thing is they did all this without pocket calculators and the Intel 8086 computer chipset was still 15 years away. America had yet to meet Archie Bunker and that actor Ronald Reagan was still Governor of California.

Can we go forward in history? I'd like to meet the first openly atheist President and see the nation where this is possible.

Because any historical event that wasn't created in a quonset in New Mexico isn't worth witnessing.Brackite wrote:July 20, 1969.
I kid, of course -- I'm an Apollo program geek. If you haven't read Andrew Chaikin's 'A Man on the Moon', you owe it to yourself: http://www.amazon.com/dp/014311235X
