I've researched this issue directly, seeing the stats myself. Yes, there is a "lower-rate" of violent death than previous, but that rate was already going down every year for the prior ten years before the gun ban. In other words, statistically speaking there was little actual change.
It's certainly not upwards of 59-65% reduction of violent death (gun deaths yes, but not violent death). That is a completely false statement.
Feel free to provide any actual data to support your claims. I am guessing you have as much proof to support the above silliness as you have to support any of your beliefs that support the truthfulness of the LDS church. I am sad for you...your whole, pathetic belief system is based on nothing but wishful thinking....

I've posted the charts/stats a couple times on this board in the last couple of months....
Lol...so some guy on freerepublic created a bunch of graphs (im guessing you didn't actually look at the scale on any of them) and that is what you are using to support your moronic claims...Please provide the data that he used to create the graphs...

That just means you are a feeble minded, waffling doofus who is easily persuaded by emotional arguments. You seem to be incapable of rational, logical thought so I understand why you can't seem to rationally defend your shallow "belief" system considering it changes regularly...

Further knowledge, education, and experience is not being a "feeble minded, waffling doofus who is persuaded by emotional arguments".
My beliefs haven't changed in 20 years.... It only in my youth and early 20's in which they changed, and such is NORMAL for them to change in those years. A person learns, gains experience, etc.
Now, why don't you use your brain instead of believing "cop-outs" to justify your ignorant and false bigotry of Mormons?

Personally, I don't care if ldsfaqs has a differing opinion than mine...he is entitled to believe and argue for whatever he wishes. I do object strongly, though, to his personal insults which have become a regular part of his posts. If that is what they are teaching down at the ward house it becomes another reason why I want nothing to do with it.
It is true that gun-related deaths overall began to fall since 1991, but that decrease continued into the 2000s, and whether "Howard's Law" (gun control) is largely responsible is debated by some. One thing is certain as of today:
Prior to the implementation of the gun laws, 112 people were killed in 11 mass shootings. Since the implementation of the gun laws, no comparable gun massacres have occured in Australia.
From the first link:
Remarkably, American pro-gun advocates try to use the impact of the Australian gun law reform to make a case that reform “doesn’t work”. This seems amazing given the homicide rate in the United States is 5 per 100,000 people, with most homicides involving firearms.
When gun advocates use Australian crime stats, they sometimes employ a number of misleading tricks and sleights of hand. These tricks are common to several politically charged debates, and are a form of pseudo-science. Lets look at these tricks in action.

For an overall picture of crime statistics:
Excerpt:
Over the past two decades, an average of 19 people per year have been killed by offenders using firearms.
The number of homicide victims killed by offenders using firearms decreased from 14 percent in 2008–09 to 13 percent of total homicides in 2009–10.
The proportion of homicide victims killed by offenders using firearms in 2009–10 represented a decrease of 18 percentage points from the peak of 31 percent in 1995–96 (the year in which the Port Arthur massacre occurred with the death of 35 people, which subsequently led to the introduction of stringent firearms legislation)
